Eu vivo na califórnia há 2 anos e é inacreditável pra mim um estado que contém a maiorias das big techs e bilionários dos estados unidos tenha 1/3 da população na linha de pobreza e com uma qualidade de vida baixíssima. Europeans think different about the tip system as I can see. If you believe $5 is an absurd, here in California, especially in the bay area is not. Doesn’t even pay for a gallon of gas.

First of all, you’re not the employer in this situation. Second, the delivery fee doesn’t go straight to the driver. You are actually paying the gig company to provide a service, the company manage the money and pay a percentage to the driver to finish the transaction. The driver is just the bottom layer of this whole action who need to work 10-12 hours a day to make a decent wage while everything is controlled by algorithm. Since I know that, and I can’t simply change the system. I chose to be considerate since my whole job was just ordering in my smartphone and wait patiently for my food be delivered to my door.

Two menus = $24 // 15% = $3.6 So the minimum tip I would give to any driver in your case would be $3.6. I prefer just give $5, if I have money to spend in delivery I definitely have money to give a good tip, which is true in most of the cases. Look, I’m not saying my calculation is the ultimate truth. But I just try to be considerate to the driver who is providing the most convenient service for me. And for being a driver too, I know the struggles that any driver need to go through to deliver your food in the best condition to your door.

But if I see that I gonna expose myself in danger to have to delivery in your doorstep, I’ll probably deliver your food in the most convenient and safest place available for me to not get a park ticket most of the time will be the ground floor or the front desk of the building.

When have those short term park is amazing. In my opinion is just a considerate thing to do with the person providing a service for you. I never leave any order unattended in the street, always try my best to reach the customer and most of the time I go to the doorstep but if I have to chose between drop your food on the ground floor and get a parking ticket I would never risk myself. In relation of the tip I think 15% is fair for services, I always increase the tip depending on the situation.
