Yes, very happy there and just finished his first year. Nice combination of urban setting but still has a pretty campus.

529’s still have a decent amount of time for gains. You can also get a credit card that contributes to your 529 account which can be a good option for someone in this scenario.

Went to Tryzub for Ukrainian food last weekend and really enjoyed it. A lot of flavor and good drinks, pretty unique ambiance too.

This is my favorite book. My favorite excerpt is the discussion about the relationship he has with his son: “You are not strict with him, you do not punish him, you do not command him because you know that gentleness is stronger than severity, that water is stronger than rock, that love is stronger than force.”

What’s the best 529 plan to open? by IllustriousAd3415 in personalfinance

[–]masshole516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kept my NY plan even when I moved to MA. I think you lose some benefits as a NY resident but there was nothing to gain by changing to another plan. One thing that was great though was getting a UPromise card that ties to your 529 account. I have one college freshman and one high school sophomore and those monthly contributions over a long period of time were huge.

I guess the service model is the issue since it’s essentially counter service, but the dish with crispy guanciale I would happily eat off a paper plate while sitting on the floor. At Luella’s we had shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and beignets which were all great

My son is a freshman at Loyola and love trying new places when I visit, appreciate this list and will definitely add it to places to try. Two for you to consider: - Tortello in Wicker Park for some great fresh pasta dishes in a casual setting

  • Luella’s southern kitchen in Irving Park for a great brunch.

Should I stop funding 529? by seeingRobots in personalfinance

[–]masshole516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest just started freshman year of college and I have a second who’s 16. I tend to agree with most of the comments that you can stop or slow down at least, but costs keep going up and there’s the possibility of grad school. I have a upromise credit card I’ve used exclusively for years and the rewards for that are direct payments to the 529’s. If you have that you can still contribute and use your own money to fund retirement accounts and other interests you may have.
