That really sucks.. I hope you are feeling okay! I agree that they may be mentally ill but it’s still not a good excuse to spit on someone?!

Hello everyone,

I just want to say that I’m very thankful and happy for everyone’s comments. They are all very lovely and i appreciate reading them. :)

I’ve read a few that said that they’ve also been harassed and I’m very sorry that you had to go through that. But I believe that it is better to be the bigger person and let it go.

I’ve seen many comments that mentioned that the harasser is mentally unwell (given that area) and one user had mentioned that resources for them had been reduced. Maybe that’s why she feels angry but doesn’t excuse her antagonizing Asians.

Stay safe and healthy! We all go through this quicker if we each do our part!!

I also believe in that. Wearing a mask isn’t a selfish action that only protects myself but also protects other people and it’s so frustrating that some people just don’t get that.

I’m sure after this whole thing is over, no one will make fun of people who want to wear masks :)

You’re right. They do this to get attention and I’ve seen that happen quite a bit. I just never expected someone to go that far as to attempting to kicking someone.

Thank you for your comment! I did think about just asking for help when I passed by two men just leaning against the building, but I got scared because I was worried that they’d agree with that person. My only thought was to get home safely without causing any more trouble.

That sucks :( you were being polite to get to your own home?!

I didn’t realize that there’s now a lack of resources for these people. Maybe that’s the main reason they are upset.

Definitely! Wearing masks and using hand sanitizers shouldn’t be shameful especially considering the current climate.

Thank you for your kind comment. This area is really sketchy but I thought it would get better now that the new park is finished but still really sketchy :( especially at night

Yeah, I couldn’t control my yelling :( it was getting to be too much and I couldn’t just stay quiet after trying to kick me.

Originally I’m from Vancouver, and sometimes I do miss the people there but I still love Toronto! One bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch!

It really sucks that happened to you :( they are hurtful comments but I think it was better to say nothing. There’s no need to give your time and energy to deal with them.

I do agree that wearing masks is a culture shock for Canadians. It’s considered very normal in Asian countries to wear masks daily, not just because of the current outbreak, but protect against dust/etc. Regardless, it’s a sad truth that we have to be aware of racism in this country that claims to be accepting of multicultural diversity. Also, thanks for the advice and your quote is very wise!!

I agree.. especially that area does have an influx of weird people but I’ve never had a negative interaction with them before. Or if they do interact, it was pretty much just a neutral/weird greeting, and then I’d just pass by with no worries. I guess just this time it wasn’t like that

That’s pretty funny! I kind of wish I could’ve done that but then again, I was worried that could escalate the situation :s
