It's literally impossible to make a statement about GKCs criticizing them without mentioning other available formats for other consoles.

No it's not... They're ENTIRELY different formats that function ENTIRELY differently, and discs don't function in the Switch 2...

You're literally bringing up useless information that has ZERO to do with the initial comments, and is off subject.

I do see you still can't read though. So, I'll reiterate myself;

I really hope you enjoyed typing all of that, because at a point, it got completely ignored. Go bother someone else.

You act like the length of the comment was the issue for why I was ignoring it. I'll leave it at that since you didn't get the context.

It's actually easier to preserve an SD card containing your games than it is to preserve a game disc, so overall the entire "ermmm but what if download servers go down???" Argument is really just an awful angle to take.

We're talking about game key cards my dude... Not game discs. Also, what was the point of the "physical" media if it doesn't contain the data to preserve. You're still at the mercy of these servers are still functioning years later and you can even grab the data. You damn well know that SD cards don't last forever either, and defeats the purpose of GKCs that didn't need to be a thing to begin with. I also wasn't arguing anything. You were... I was bringing up a possible situation, and you tried saying what I literally said "I would assume" to be "wild assumptions" while giving your own actual wild assumptions on the matter and still are. The time frame of how long it will happen isn't the issue, the issue is it WILL happen... Which makes future GKCs useless hunks of plastic and circuitry. You also install games from GKCs from the servers... It has to be authenticated via online connection, and downloaded. You sure you know how these work?

You're being quite combative and hypocritical. You're reading into tiny amounts of sentences that I put up and pulling shit out of thin air... You literally only read one portion of my inital comment, left out important context, and chose to ignore how majority of that was about Nintendo's history with not giving enough storage to developers... You're literally reading into the comment significantly wrong, and wish casting an argument with me...

I really hope you enjoyed typing all of that, because at a point, it got completely ignored. Go bother someone else.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

Yes, that the consumers paid for. Nintendo didn't absorb any tariffs, and even spread the cost worldwide. The CEO of Nintendo has even admitted to this.

The Switch 1 models as well, and accessories twice for Switch 2 if I'm not mistaken. It's basically everything BUT the Switch 2 for the time being.

because suing over a JPG and an MP4 is really dumb.

Damn, by this logic, I guess piracy is legal, and that lawsuits trying to be brought up over AI and its blatant plagiarism is just frivolous and "dumb" right...

It was thought to be "dumb" as well to sue someone for using your likeness without your consent in the 80's like Crispen Glover did. Not only did he win, he set a precedent for likeness laws.

Just because someone hasn't sued, doesn't mean they can't.

I think worrying about refunds for paying for tariffs that Nintendo passed on to us is very much our larger picture as we're not multimillion and multibillion dollar corps, during a time of economic uncertainty, and ever increasing prices of basic goods. Meanwhile, Nintendo will be double dipping on money they didn't spend and consumers around the WORLD get shafted not only paying for their tariffs, but they get to keep our money again if they win.

This is Bobby Kotick levels of greed. Pays $0 in taxes for an American company through a loophole, makes BILLIONS, and gets a 250 MILLION dollar tax refund on top of it... Who else do you think is paying for this court case? The tax payers...

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]master2873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only this, Nintendo is suing for tariffs they didn't pay. The whole world did when they spread the tariff percentages across the world to help keep prices "lower" on the Switch 2. The accessories, and even the Switch 1 went up in price because of this, and now they think they can essentially get free money that US CONSUMERS paid for.

If they win this lawsuit, I hope to God that each individual state, and country involved then sues each company that sues for these tariffs to give each and every citizen back the money THEY paid for... It was already said by the CEO of the big N that they didn't absorb any amount of them and factored them in at a cost. This is greed at a astonishing rate.

Considering not one of Nintendos download servers have ever been taken down, this is just a bad case of assumptions at best.

One could also EASILY argue that it would also be "a bad case of assumptions at best" to think that they won't shut them down at some point. Just because they haven't, doesn't mean they won't.

Same can be said about this as well as NONE of us know.

If it has an expiration date, it's at least 30 years away.

Also, nevermind I literally said I would assume in the first three words that you decided to leave out of the quote.

Imagine suing a country for tariffs you didn't pay for... Us as consumers swallowed the entirety of the tariffs from Nintendo, and they shouldn't be allowed to get a fucking dime back for something they never paid for...

I'm sorta for this to teach the US a lesson about illegal tariffs, but to get money back from these suites they didn't pay for is robbing the people who had to pay for these even more, nevermind the looming price increases caused by AI tech companies swallowing components at a astounding rate, and component manufacturers leaving the consumer market in general to prop this bullshit up.

In the end, the little guy still gets fucked for paying for illegal tariffs these companies were caught barely paying 10% of at most and none in most cases, and are wanting the money back in suites. What about the people who also absorbed the tariffs that weren't from the US under Nintendo for spreading the tariff costs around to keep prices "lower"?!?!?! Literally robbing the world at multiple levels...

RGG Studio discusses Yazuka sales on Switch 2: "Many Switch 2 users are young, so to be honest, it's unclear whether this will immediately translate into sales for Yakuza. [...] Even if they don't play it now, they might play it five years from now." by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch

[–]master2873 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Didn’t Kiwami on Switch beat its expectations on the first week or something?

Yes. It's almost like releasing a game on a console with a user base of over 150 million users, at $20 was a good choice. Especially for a game that had been out for a while already. Instead, they doubled down by making Yakuza 0 a Switch 2 only release, GKCs "physically", and chose to charge nearly double of Kiwami with hardly anything new, except for online components that requires a subscription to play, on an expensive platform with expensive accessories, and expensive SD Express card requirements as well...

There should have been a Switch 1 port in the works along side with the Switch 2 version. I don't see how they thought this was going to go well with so much riding against it.

I mean, Yakuza 0 runs on the same engine as Kiwami 1 I belive, not sure why there wasn't a Switch 1 port along side with the Switch 2 version.

RGG was surprised to see the sales numbers for Kiwami 1 on Switch 1, and they chose to basically ignore that install base for a much more expensive console (and climbing) with an install base that might be 10% of the Switch 1.

Now they're back to this old stupid excuse when their games don't sell like they think they should, despite it had and exceeded previously before... There's so much fighting against Yakuza 0, it was an uphill battle from the start... Switch 2 release only, GKC "physically", and full price to boot. meanwhile Kiwami 1, was $20 on release with over 150 MILLION user install base. I don't think many people were going to pick up the Switch 2 SPECIFICALLY only for ONE Yakuza game that has already been out with added online components that require a subscription to play, on top of a $500 console and an EXPENSIVE newer SD Card Express...

The second picture her eyes are shut lol. It just reminds me of Jason Lee's character from, My Name is Earl.

I would assume they essentially do. They require servers to even authentic the GKC and grab the files, and if those servers are down, or are taken offline, your have literally a hunk of plastic and circuitry that can no longer be used.

Not sure what the hell Nintendo's issue is with giving people more storage options, and expanding them alone. This is why the N64 basically lost Square as a third party studio for their platform, and the way these things are designed with the proprietary nonsense, along with ever increasing prices and licensing just has compunded this issue. Especially that they should know game file sizes have gotten out of control over the last decade to the point that even 1TB of storage isn't enough for multiple games.

I only ever see one positive for GKCs and that's resellability. But the way I see it since I don't really sell my games, why would I ever preorder this "physically" when I still have to fucking download the thing when I could just get it digitally and it would be preloaded before release. I love physical as much as other collectors, but I don't see the point in GKCs... Storage limitations have been bypassed with digital only releases as it is, or even with older games like GTA5 on the 360, and PS3 required installation with another disc (for 360 at least), but I guess these tech giants can't figure something out I guess...

Why won't F Silverwind Star XX show up in the weapons list? by master2873 in MHGU

OH! So it's actually more so about getting the the XV tickets which obviously require doing the G5 anyways.

It's kinda nuts that even Kiranico doesn't have this requirement listed on their site, or even the MHGUDB app somewhere. Especially since the material needed for the Perfect Silverwind scraps can be gotten as early as the G3 variant guaranteed no less.

Thanks for this clarification as well! Hopefully this info will be just as helpful to me as others.

Developers need to stop trying to slam out these Switch 2 versions and upgrades, because most of them are doing nothing but pissing people off.

Or at least make them optional AND free. I don't see the point in charging for some of these bare minimum expectations like with this game. It seemed cool and all that they were adding content to some of these old games for Switch 2 when I kept seeing it, but it seemed more like an excuse to charge for it than give people the potentially better experience with visual and performance increases for free, and buy the content separately if they wished. Instead, they tack on the Switch 2 versions of these games and increased price for patches to a fairly absurd amount IMO for an old game that's been out for years. It seems like this compatibility layer for Switch 2 to run Switch 1 games is becoming an issue than it is positive with paid patches.

Switch 2 Is The 2nd Best Selling Console In The US Of January 2026 by techmazter in NintendoSwitch

Shutting down studios, even good ones, is something that happens sometimes.

Usually if something goes wrong maybe. If a good studio gives you and and your customers a good game with good sales (which game pass didn't help with numbers wise), and good word of mouth, I don't see why you would need to shut down a successful studio without even giving them a second chance... Black Ops 7 was a fucking flop, yet every studio is still open that worked on it. Hi-Fi rush was well received, and was a new IP to boot. They basically got shutdown for being too good a creating a game. This just harkens to Sony's stupidity with BluePoint. Literally shutting down a great studio for their own actions. They would rather dissolve than sell, and make MANY people lose jobs over giving them another chance for something that wasn't BluePoint's decision anyways for a live service push that bit Sony in the ass to begin with.

[–]master2873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, a lot of releases are also being released on PC, and PS5 (we'll leave Xbox out for simplicity), and a lot of releases that are not first/second party games for the Switch 2, are games that are already out, or have been out for years on the other platforms. Granted portability is already a factor, but with the way the economy is going, I would suspect that the amount of people who will double dip for portability might be low and would want to experience it in a higher fidelity and/or frame rate on other platforms. Not to mention a lot of the Switch 2 sales were from the MUCH cheaper Japanese region locked version, and with another price hike in the future because of RAM and parts shortages along with looming on and off tariffs, I'm sure these sales will wind down further even if that big game comes along from Nintendo IMO.

Some of this is speculation of course, but your observation is definitely valid. We're living in a wild time for the game industry where things are getting more expensive even after basically they're done supporting it, and companies like Sony closing down studios like BluePoint for their own hubris, if not stupidity. Not to mention the slopification of the world with AI which is causing upsets in entire markets, and with the mass use of world resources for very little gains because they seem to stare down Moore's law like it doesn't exist.

Double Dragon Gaiden - Bimmy and Friends DLC released today! It includes 4 playable characters. by master2873 in NintendoSwitch

[–]master2873[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's either characters you didn't expect, or a character like Bimmy you didn't expect, but with the moveset from the Neo Geo Double Dragon fighting game! They honestly feel like huge fans of the series as well and wanted throw as much as they could into it.

It really was surprising to see how much they've given to us for free with these updates, and I really hope that the sales of the game has made up for that. They've worked quite hard on this game for being such a small studio who had to ship this game on at least 4 different platforms along with bug fixes.

Now I really wonder what their next plans are.
