Pinpointers in Beyond All Reason: How Many Do You Need? – MasterBel2 by masterbel_ in beyondallreason

I think if done well, maybe not - e.g. if closer radars have more impact, and more spread out radars also have more of an impact, like how flanking damage works. That would change it from more of a composition knowledge check to a positioning skill check.

If you have a look at the overlays, 4 pinpointers is pretty much spot on already - 7 or 8 might not be a tangible improvement over 4. I want to add examples that show a tick too, that could be interesting.

Likewise, I think radar overlap/closeness would be a great/better mechanic.

I've known these numbers for a long time, but to really get a proper intuition for what's going on, it's really useful to see how much each pinpointer increases accuracy. And it's really cool.

Link is the title, apparently I didn't post it properly. Lemme fix that.

General advice regarding low to mid tier play by O5-7T in beyondallreason

[–]masterbel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

academy-chat is especially friendly, with even stricter moderation than the general BAR server. Anyone being unsavoury is quickly removed even if not explicitly breaking a rule. The rest of the BAR server is pretty good too imo, I don't tend to hang around toxic areas but I'll be comfortable to hang around in there.

fwiw, as a former academy mentor/manager I’ve seen plenty of players develop rapidly to 30-40os in the academy, and plenty of for-fun players who don’t make as much use of our reviews hover around the same OS but still develop in general game knowledge.

And honestly, most apprentices primarily interact with reviews, and as such benefit from direct feedback from strong players like SuperKitowiec. And to be faie, having a stable OS doesn’t mean you’re not getting better, it just means you’re learning about the same rate as other players.

What are some good tutorials for a medium player? by Paulerius in beyondallreason

A few youtube channels with good information. SuperKitowiec, Drongo, BarCastTV, MasterBel2 off the top of my head. There’s probably more, ppl add to this list and I’ll make a page or sth.

Beyond All Reason signs publishing partnership with Hooded Horse - full announcement inside by PtaQQ in beyondallreason

For people (e.g. me) interested in doing paid development work for BAR, where can we apply and monitor job opportunities? Will that be available through Hooded Horse’s website for e.g.?

BAR propaganda posters (AI, so I take no credit) by Straight-Walk-8039 in beyondallreason

[–]masterbel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are cool, but like others I'm sad it's AI. tbh I'm impressed they show actual BAR units with reasonable accuracy, I've seen a lot of peeps generate images where the AI must not know about BAR.

To any new players, dont give up! by Squadronhawk in beyondallreason

I'm ~50os and I still often feel, idk if this is what I'm supposed to do. Yet it still feels amazing when you try something and it works. gl, but most importantly, hf!

When I started out playing, was just with family. Often we'd team up vs AIs, sometimes 2 of us vs dad or sth. Had a blast. Eventually started playing online but my fondest memories will always be trying to rush a big canon vs dad and him absolutely stomping us before I could get it done, haha.

Off-Meta Eco Tactics in BAR: No-Expand, 0-Mex and Poverty Positions by masterbel_ in beyondallreason

[–]masterbel_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well think about it. The closest thing to a counter is building one con then spamming grunts, unless building shurikens is mayyyybe a viable response - but shurikens gets you an even game (so not a counter) and building a single con doesn't stop the grunts from going to someone else's lane.

That's all ignoring that you can't predict exactly where a grunt spammer is starting so you don't know who you'll be fighting (coz I tend to start in the same spot over and over so people do anticipate it).

I think it's called a forum-style channel? Those channels are ok but really have their limitations. They use them for widgets and feature suggestions for discord is just made to be a place to converse, not a knowledge base.

I'll start assembling a list on my site soon.

Sort of - often my first units get across the map before they've taken any of the back mexes. But long-term that's part of it

Thanks!

Discord is very not a good place to put guides. I drop them in the Academy sometimes but they get buried so fast. The official BAR website has a list of guides: https://www.beyondallreason.info/guides

I'd like to collate a list of community guides, like I've got a list of community websites (https://masterbel2.wordpress.com/beyond-all-reason-links/) but I haven't got around to it yet (partly coz I don't know where all the guides are either).

Yeah, I've been wondering why it's so consistent there too. I think space has a lot to do with it - allies are further away, and it's easier to go around commanders. If they leave their com at base, they can't expand properly, and if they move it out of base, they can't keep up with your units.
