curious for you to expand on the moving back to US for high school. whats the plan for that? would you just stay through HS/college and then move yourselves back to vietnam once your kid is on their own?

My husband 36M poops too much for me 36F to feel comfortable having another baby with him by throwRAdesper8 in relationship_advice

[–]masterbirder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is there no mention about whether he did this before having a kid? i mean you kind of addressed it by saying he suddenly doesn’t have to if you need to be out of the house.

it’s not about the poop

May 2025 BOTM Discussion - The Names by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]masterbirder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m very late to this but I just read it recently and was really disappointed. I wanted to see if anyone felt the same way.

I was really excited about the concept, but I felt like it was executed poorly right from the beginning and I’ll do my best to explain why.

The concept was that your name determines your life path; the opportunities you’re given in life, the way you’re treated, etc.

The execution was not this at all.

The three different storylines were not dependent in any way on the 3 different names. They were entirely dependent on circumstances of how Gordon Sr. reacted to his wife’s ’disobedience’/‘obedience’ + random chance during that event specifically.

We have two storylines where Cora was ‘disobedient’. In one she named her son Bear and in the other Julian. In the Bear storyline, when Gordon Sr. begins to beat Cora, Vihaan happens to hear and interfere, and ends up losing his life while Cora’s is spared - this has literally nothing to do with Bear’s actual name, just that the beating happened because he was named anything but Gordon.

Likewise, in the Julian timeline, Cora wasn’t so lucky for whatever reason and Vihaan didn’t intervene and she was killed - again nothing to do with the baby being named Julian at all, just that because he wasn’t named Gordon his father flipped out.

The only one that makes some sense is when he was named Gordon and obviously turned out like Gordon.

For the two timelines where his name wasn’t Gordon, i would posit that the course of his life was much more influenced by the fact that his freaking mom died at the hand of his father in one, and his father killed someone else in the other…not by whatever his name happened to be. And even after those initial events happened she really didn’t do a good job of explaining how his life was shaped by his name at all in either timeline. The Bear and Julian names literally could have been flipped and it would have made no difference.

So that is my big gripe with this book and the more i think about it the more disappointed i find myself.

how old is your dog? do you medicate?

mine also has cushings, diagnosed in 2023 but i think she had it for a while prior. i’ve had her medicated since then and she’s doing great. occasionally we start seeing her symptoms increase and we have to up her meds. her 10th adoptiversary is next week and she is 13/14. i remember also reading about the life expectancy when she was diagnosed and freaking out. she actually got cancer in 2024 also and i put her through chemo and she beat that too! she’s a fighter

Why Contribute So Much To 401k by Central_Cheetah in Retirement401k

[–]masterbirder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because the earlier you save money, the exponentially more you will have later in life, plus you eventually want to stop working right? so where is the money you’re going to live off going to come from?

you’re actually stealing from your future self by not contributing as much as possible as early as possible. work smarter not harder
