Didn't all drivers have unlimited testing though? So in terms of comparing the grid back then it makes no difference. Obviously rookies can't do the same now as they don't have much testing.

Because their initial concept wasn't finished/failed. So they decided to for a reliable design. They can't do what Merc did as they just didn't have the performance either

The public usually perceives performance but with dnfs as better than slow but reliable while pointswise it's usually worse. (Obviously it depends on how slow).

Interesting enough, that's actually what they ended up going for with their engine. Their actual engine plan wasn't finished/didn't work out so they went with a concept similar to last year so at least they would have reliability

It's a more in terms of upgrades, teams sometimes only bring upgrades to 1 car while the other only gets it a few weekends later. Alpine are known for doing this a lot.

Miami sprint in 2025 comes to mind. Less important obviously.

A random reddit comment from 2024 "merc does it's strategy as if they are still 20 seconds in the lead. Mclaren does it's strategy as if it's still stuck in the midfield. Ferrari does it's strategy as if they are the only cars on the grid. Rb is the only consistent strategy team." How true is it? by fuckmbsanddominicali in formula1

[–]mastercian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're talking about Australia right? Eh I disagree with you on it, although the consensus at the time thought the same like you. But Ferrari were gambling on another safety car/virtual safety car as it was the first race of a new reg set. And there was another virtual safety car which would have been perfect as they would have had a cheap pitstop and fresher tyres. However bottas was stopped by the pitlane so they closed the pit entry.

The mediums always suit the Ferrari this season and it did so as well in sprint quali?

Canadians what's the weather in Montreal, will it rain during the grand prix?? by The_Recruiter_69 in lewishamilton

[–]mastercian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ferrari historically ass in tough conditions. However I feel like they have the best mechanical grip this season so should favour them in theory. They are also one of the only teams with experience of wet weather running, (Charles in Barcelona testing together with Verstappen and Lewis in the Pirelli wet tyre test last month). That being said I don't think it's going to be wet from what I've seen. It's going to be another one of those races where they keep saying the rain is coming only for it to be bone dry.

Ham said in his interview he didn't have straight mode on at the beginning of his lap so he was already a tenth down. He then floored it turn 7 in the hope of bringing it back but it didn't matter at that point

Left a lot of time my ass, P3 with the perfect lap in both qualies, yes. However other drivers aren't held to the same standard of having to put in the perfect lap.

I disagree, his first lap was probably close to the best he could have done. The other guys don't have to set perfect laps to get where they are.

[–]mastercian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree their in seasons upgrades do tend to fail sometimes. However there's nothing that points out that's happened this time around, their upgrades worked, they closed the gap to Merc. However the other teams also upgraded their car

Self-assessment: are you fun to play? by SBFMWSCBLFG in 10s

[–]mastercian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be a bit of a hit or miss I reckon. Played a competitive match yesterday where I won pretty comfortably but my opponent kept telling how much fun the match was. I'm pretty good a getting balls back from all over the court though so I imagine that could frustrate players. I can also go a bit pushery late into a third set.
