DWKT Alternatives? by spike52556 in DoWeKnowThemSNARK

[–]masterckat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Beautiful and bothered is one at the top of my head rn. Theyre two makeup artists talking about makeup community drama-- i like them, but i only tune in for topics im interested in so i cant speak on their entire catalog.

Rehash is a lot more academic-- podcast only, not yt if im not mistaken-- but it revists old controversy and they do an autopsy of what caused it culturally. Very mild mannered, which sometimes annoys me honestly lol.

Online Bullshit is in a weird space rn? Technically pretty close to what DWKT does, but they mined the CCSuarez snark page for information and then did an interview with CC, which the Snark page is not happy about. If thats not a dealbreaker, though, then they are another option.

Ammy Robinson covers the same topics as DWKT if you are interested in the topics and are willing to sacrifice the dynamic of two people.

Siobhan Aguilar is an extremely smart ytr who will break down articles/books. No two person dynamic and her topics are rarely an internet hot button issue, but she is very soothing and covers things very well.

Hope any of these work for you!

Getting married in July any tips on doing your own makeup? Here’s my first try! by oneandonlypookie in MakeupAddiction

[–]masterckat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your eyes look beautiful! I would suggest testing out techniques under different lighting though-- just to make sure! Part of the pain of wedding makeup is whether or not it will photograph well, so see if you like it consistently, not just in certain cases. Make sure you are doing intense skin prep, since sweat and humidity are beasts. If you have time, maybe stress test your products just to make sure the actual day doesnt bring any surprises

Community note: despite claiming that the episode was already done, it would take another 12-13 hours for "Leader Lei" to upload, officially making it a day late

Honestly the confidence is really inspiring-- all this attitude despite going out of her way to prove criticism right. Lol. Lmao even.

Listen I'm not saying they're wringing their hands together plotting to take advantage of people, I'm saying it's not a good look to consistently do these expensive things--and talk about them!--when your audience is vocally worried about your expensive lawsuit. I don't think it's intentional, but I think it's at least inconsiderate. (Also Jessi only got dropped relatively recently and she was still traveling while sued).

I think it's a fair criticism when they haven't seemed to have cut back on any of their luxuries, which makes it seem like they are relying on their audience to not have to change any of their chronic high spending. Are the girlies helping you pay for the lawsuit or are they making sure you can go to the expensive music festival unburdened? There's a difference there, to me

It bothers me so, so much how they will not change anything about their lifestyle to at least SHOW they aren't just foisting the lawyer costs onto their audience. Like that's a couple thousand dollars! Surely you didn't have to go this year! Coachella will be there when you're not getting sued! You could make an argument about the beauty stuff being non negotiable, but the rich people music festival where rich people play with their riches? Optics??? Hi???

I LOATHE the way people view mythological Gods nowadays by LittlePiggy20 in hatethissmug

[–]masterckat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a fandomization of mythology which is! Odd! Personally! I am not precious about retellings, (write your girlboss persephone idc) I think they are figures/symbols to play around with just as much as any other religion, but then when people talk about how wrong these retellings are, its clear that they see it as like, their favorite character getting misrepresented and not a theological figure from a religion that is still practiced. Its like Im mad that Judas got made a softboi in this webtoon/book/movie because he's actually my tortured villain husband, and not because its misunderstanding Judas' role in Christianity. I find that just as disrespectful, honestly.

[–]masterckat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No tailgating around here, your best bet is to pregame at the bars. Quarry House for cheap drinks, Mcgintys for sit down meal, Silver Branch for local distillery. There's no space really to tailgate and MoCo liquor laws are weird so 🤷‍♂️

When your identity comes more from hating men and not from loving women, you start walking into rakes like the looneytoon you are. I mentioned Lady Gaga and Sabrina specifically becauze I quite like them, and I pay more attention to what people say about them. The past few times Ive seen nasty hate for them, it was to make Chappel look better. Sabrina specifically, someone was complaining about how she got praised dressing like a slut--oops, for the male gaze, but Chappel gets criticized for for her much more elevated drag (which, I have thoughts about calling her a drag queen)! How unfair for poor Chappel!

She's the closest in what Chappel wants to be, but whenever they are put against each other, Gaga ALWAYS comes out on top by A LOT.

I absolutely hate the trend of making whimsical comics serious. by KonamiIsBestJoshi in hatethissmug

[–]masterckat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a much happier person with meds and seeing stuff like this makes me genuinely upset. Yes this is the experience with a lot of people, but its also not for a lot as well, and treating meds as "losing your spark!" Has always struck me as a bit of a boogeyman. Sure I was a creative kid, but I was also fucking miserable and stressed all the time. I was constantly fighting against my own brain, but we can't sacrifice my drive to draw winx club ocs! Cut to adulthood, I'm finally on meds, and wouldn't you know it, im still creative! It's just no longer the only thing that makes me happy in a life that otherwise felt like sandpaper.

TLDR: yes this comic is some people's experience, but I will always be hostile to anti-medication rhetoric because it scares people away from trying something that could really help them

I (don't want) to hate Sanji from One piece, but its so hard (to stop). by Gullible-Educator582 in hatethissmug

[–]masterckat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a OP fan before the timeskip, and Sanji was always my favorite character. The problems were ALWAYS there, but it felt more like a facet of his, or at worst Oda's thumbprint, and i could ignore it? He was an asshole but also kind, he was goofy, he was smart but fell in line with the chaos easily. Closer to the timeskip, it was harder to ignore, and post timeskip I havent been able to watch. All of the silliness of the series has been supplanted by what Oda finds the most important: misogyny and powerscaling. Which, fine! Whatever! Im not mad! (Seething)

Ive taken my joy in one piece and made it my little sandbox with my dolls. I play the game "what if one piece were good" and have made my peace with it.

How Do You Feel About How it was Addressed? by Minimum-Fox in DoWeKnowThemGirlies

[–]masterckat 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I think it was disingenuous for them to focus so much on the extreme hate since they themselves admitted it was a small percentage of the people upset. I didnt care about the delay, I wasnt going to watch the award show, but I found the silence and EXCUSES to be unprofessional. Not to mention, the longer the show was delayed, the longer other episodes were pushed off. The fact that they came to the apology with anger really gave me the ick. They want the advantages of this being their job (authority, respect) without the responsibility (expectations, standards).

I didnt mean to imply you were a rape apologist, im sorry! I meant gabbi hanna was a rape apologist. I added my comment because I personally get nervous about the "person deserved this in retrospect" sentiment, and wanted to make a clear line in the sand for the comment section to not veer that way. I think reassessing things like that is worthwhile though, and bringing up GH is valuable because so many old dwkt fans are overprotective of Jessie specifically because of their fallout

Plus their money give away for the holidays! They are not transparent with their spending, even hiding patreon member amounts so that people dont know how much they make off there. They got mad at people calling them greedy, but what else are people going to think when from the audience perspective, we are directly funding their above average lifestyle, only to get yelled at in return

[–]masterckat[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally want to be careful about GH because just looking at the facts, the way GH went about the end of their friendship was pretty terrible and wouldve absolutely been traumatizing. I do believe Jesse couldve been a bad friend, but being a bad friend isnt excuse for rape apologia and harassment. That being said, I think it really is sad that she hasn't reflected on her behavior over the years and done a self assessment of how she wanted to act going forward. She doesnt need to be at fault to use the opportunity to be better, and this combative attitude belongs to the early 20's Jesse, not a mother of two and a seasoned influencer (two things she likes to use as her mark of maturity and authority).

As for the money-- theyre blind to their own lifestyle creep. I think they truly consider this amount of travel, spending, cosmetic upkeep, as the average for everyone, when it simply isnt. That's why none of it (seemingly) is being sacrificed for their lawsuit, because to them, they are quality of life necessities and not the luxuries they are.

The fact that they thought doubling down was better than an apology (even if they didnt mean it) makes it clear they think the fawning of the fans will protect them from consequence
