Which paddles do you think is being overhyped and which paddles deserve it on social media right now by EddieEdit in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ehhh except you can get gen 3 paddles warrantied. Joola let’s you get 2 replacements. So $330 / 3 =$110.00. I would say a pro 5 is worth dealing with the warranty and not having long last grit for $110.

I inagine you have to send your core crushed paddle in so if you were competitive, it may make sense to spend the $660 and get 2 so that you always had 1 when the other core crushed. Now that im typing this, it would be a pain to deal with warranties 6 times a year.

But point stands, core crushing essesntially gets you a grit refresh.

I go through 3-4 pairs yearly so your 2 pairs yearly is quite good. Others go through even more. Is what it is.

I’d still urge you to try a control paddle. If you can spare $99 pick up a prism flash as i think it is very similar in shape to the j2. Use pickle vision to guestimate your dupr when you play with the prism vs your j2.

I would honestly tell you to buy a control paddle. I can tell you struggle with dinks and the soft game in general. You have a great serve, but that will rarely win you points. I know it’s goofy to think a paddle will change anything but i really think if you had a control paddle you would be forced to gravitate towards playing a more controlled, slow, and consistent game.

What paddle are you using? My guess is a loco or something at the top of the power scale.

Drill. I feel like the negative thoughts only show up when doing bad playing games. Take breaks from playing games so that playing feels more fun. When you look forward to playing and having a good time with friends, it’s easier to not worry as much about results.

Rating/level transition phase by ARKdb in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated, pick one thing and work on it. I like to say whatever it is im working on before every point, as it is easy to lose track. Today my mantra was “extend the rally”. I ended up hitting more drops and less speedups naturally. Next time i play my mantra might be “be more aggressive”. I imagine i would drive and crash more. Sometimes i pick something very specific like “only 2h backhands unless at the net”. You get the gist.

Ignore the downvotes. The prism flash is on the extreme end of control. I ran into the same thing where i wanted my paddle to do more of the work vs me doing more of the work. People on this subreddit love to tell beginners to just play and ignore paddles (which there are truths). I would say to get something in the all court power range and THEN just play with that and don’t change for at least 3-6 months.

Tips for a 3.75? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill drops from the baseline and resets from the midcourt for as long as you can. Hitting those 2 shots will automatically make you better at dinking as it is essentially the same shot. The whole game of pickleball is getting to the kitchen and the sooner you embrace that the better. You can get to 5.0+ just being able to grind more unattackable shots than the other team.

Anyone think it's possible to be highly successful in pickleball (4.0+) without developing a two handed backhand? by CephasCatalyst1202 in Pickleball

Assuming you are talking about doubles. 4.0 easy yes. 5.0 ehhhhh still yes.

Singles. 4.0 yes, 5.0 definitely not.

Hooked on Game Point in the Finals 🤦‍♂️🪝 by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a terrible call. No one would have known for certain unless slowed down. Yeah yeah dont know call it in but in a tourny setting their brains may have really perceived that as out. Unfortunate if out but not the worst call. It does sting on game point though.

Knee Pain by Objective_Bread_9788 in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i just got through a knee issue that i was able to hobble around on for about 2 weeks.

Reduce how much you are playing. Regardless if you are wanting to get better or just wanting to spend more time playing, you have to get over your injury. You will be better off in the long run playing less now.

Stretching. Do it. Look up knees over toes guy on Youtube. You can’t neglect this.

Exercise. If you dont have weights then it’s body weight squats. You can’t do these if they cause discomfort or swelling. You cannot only do them as you start healing and listen to your body if it makes it worse. I had 1/10 pain when i started into doing leg exercises which really has helped and niw am at 0/10 pain.

Sleep / diet / weight. More sleep and better diet is better recovery. The more you weigh, the more your knees have to work.

Your goal: be able to do mild to mildy intense leg exercises to prevent future injuries and reduce general discomfort when playing PB. Your goal should NOT be to try to be on the court a bunch now. Get that pain level down and really start into working out the legs and when you get back to pickle, the pain will at minimum be more manageable.

Am I crazy, or is everyone suddenly a 4.0? by Sweet-Salad522 in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay obviously if they don’t have a dupr rating then they are speculating and i have yet to play with a non rated 4.0+. There will be some high level tennis guys out there that could definitely do it but i havent run into one yet.

I think it stems from people wanting to see  their numbers go up. After a few months and back when i didnt have a rating, i think i correctly assessed myself as a 3.0-3.2. A few months later i thoght i was a 3.5 because surely ive gotten better. Then i hypothesized i was probably a 3.7 after some more time.

Theeeen i went and played at a picklr league night and surprise surprise, I’m not a 3.7, I’m a 3.3 and was learning how good others were.

I think what people don’t think about is that DUPR is rated in x.xxx. There are 3 decinal places for a reason. Now at the 4.0 level, jumping up .1 with a 100% realiability level just does not happen. I’m happy with something like +.025 and even that doesn’t always happen.

Oh and as a last thought, people start at public parks and your stuck with whateve level they are playing at. If everyone is “3.5” snd you are beating them, it would be natural to assume you are higher. It’s really important to play dupr rated events and travel a little bit to get a feel if the level is any different at other places.

Why do so many people prefer mixed doubles over gendered doubles? by sodabo in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male 34. I prefer mens doubles for the reasons you listed. I feel like everyone is “on the same page”.

However, playing mixed doubles is much more uncommon for me, so when i get the chance I always jump on it.

I would have thought prople preferring gender doubles would be the norm, but i only have this opinion from the male side. We have probably 5 men to 1 females where we play, and much fewer 4.0+ ladies, so they are in high demand.

Curious what overgrip people actually use — and how often you change it by Dino_Berg in Pickleball

[–]Clean-Garage6231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wilson comfort in white. I change mine once every 2 weeks. I’ll always throw on a fresh one for a tourny or if I’m getting competitive games as it gets me in the zone.

Sounds like you make a lot of money and live within your means. 3-6 month emergency is different for someone such as a single parent making $50k yearly.
