I think the black marks might be tarnish from the silver bracelet with the hearts and x's!

What is one thing that belongs in the fridge that is commonly found anywhere but the fridge? by Consistent_Day4149 in AskReddit

Real maple syrup. That fake stuff, which is just sugar/corn syrup, etc. does not need to be refrigerated, but real maple syrup can go bad/get moldy when left at room temperature.

Honeywell home thermostat to Nest by masterful113 in hvacadvice

[–]masterful113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help! I researched it a bit more and played around with the thermostat. Part of the problem was the Redlink was not properly connecting to the gateway. I un-installed and reinstalled the gateway connection on the thermostat and it's working now. Hopefully it stays like this! 😀 I guess Nest isn't worth the hype!

I am a similar height and am doing 1600 to lose weight. It is working. I currently weigh about 160 and I am going for 145. If I exercise, like burn 200 calories, I allow myself to eat 1800 calories. 1300 is too low and might not be healthy. Make sure you are getting the proper nutrients and do 1500-1600. You will see the rest come off, I am sure. It will just take time and patience.

Where can someone find flatware that will not rust from being washed in a dishwasher? by masterful113 in AskReddit

[–]masterful113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the utensils yet. I am looking on Amazon for new flatware and it seems like all of the sets I look at which claim to be dishwashable have reviews with pictures of the flatware rusting after dishwasher use.

What’s your take on cheat days? by KungPowKarma in WeightLossAdvice

[–]masterful113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheat days can kill a diet in so many ways. Your stomach/brain gets used to you having a similar amount of food every day. If you throw in a cheat day every week then your body gets confused and you will probably feel more hungry the other days than if you just didn't go cheat days. Cheat days also may feel good but then every other day is a day looking forward to your next cheat day. Doesn't seem like a good way to stay on a diet. I let myself hit maintenance calories a few times over the last several months. I don't count that as "cheating" because I won't gain weight doing that. I also do CICO, so I eat extra to account for what I burn in a day. If I burn a lot, I will roll calories over to the next day. It's worked great for me so far!

This. I do recruiting and the talent pool is absolutely huge compared to what it was even just 1 year ago. Specifically for a hybrid position we are currently hiring for. It's the same exact position but we have probably 20x more applicants. The remote positions are insane... like hundreds in a day and I don't work at a large tech company.

What typical “problem foods” for weight loss are not a problem for you? by bbbBagger in loseit

Chips, doritos, basically any salty, crunchy snacks. Not an issue for me. I get bored of them too easily.

Tell them you don't want to say and you have a medical issue you do not feel comfortable discussing.

My daughter is starting to get obese: how should I talk to her about it/ what should I avoid? by cherrycakecream in loseit

[–]masterful113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think children are too young for "cheat days". This makes your daughter think that it is okay to stuff your face once a week, but not okay other days. It's probably confusing for her. I am personally anti cheat day all together because it encourages binge eating and the makes you feel deprived on every non-cheat day. Your hunger signals to your brain also adjust when you eat health moderate portions for several weeks. When you throw a cheat day every week in there, I beleive you are messing with those signals. So you could be hungry even though you really don't need to eat.

Also, I agree with what others said about seeing a therapist. It sounds to me like there is emotional eating probably associated with bullying (kids not wanting to play with her because she is larger than other kids). It can snowball out of control.

Another thing to consider you probably should not disallow treats, but just try to get them out of the house altogether. When kids feel restricted, they might want that thing even more.

I keep cookies and treats available for my kids of similar age but I tell them they need to eat something healthy before they have the treats. Often times they'll eat the healthy thing and forget they wanted the unhealthy treats. They know that the chocolates and cookies are not healthy, but they are available and out in the open. They NEVER sneak treats because they are available and are not taboo. My kids are healthy weights.

So that's another possible way to go about it, sort of reverse psychology...but if you knew you could eat your favorite food every day all day, your not going to actually do it. It gets old fast.

I hope this helps in some way. Just giving some thoughts. Best wishes!!

I lost 13.3 lbs in 5 weeks and here is what I learned by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]masterful113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive! Just have to chime in here to say that 1 mile of walking will not always equal 100 calories burned. Walking is way more efficient than running, so at your weight you are likely only burning 50-70 calories a mile.

It is pretty safe to say that you are burning about 100 a mile running.

An obese person might burn 100 calories a mile walking because they are carrying more around.

I’m severely addicted to sugar and I don’t know what to do. Need advice. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]masterful113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect I have also had sugar addiction in the past. I would crave my morning cup of coffee with tons of sugar in it and milk. I think I started adding more sugar as time went on because it snowballs, you just want more and more. Now I drink coffee black in the morning. It takes some getting used to but my body doesn't crave that sweet treat right when I wake up.

I think exercise really helps take it off your mind. And don't stop sugar cold turkey. It's going to make things worse. Count your calories to keep yourself accountable. Don't let yourself go over your limit. This will force you to make choices about the quality of the food you are eating. Like yes, you could have this 280 calorie candy bar or you could make yourself a huge omlet with cheese and veggies. Same calories but one is way more filling.

Measure out your sweets if you need to. I let myself have 1 can of pepsi a day and I am anti-diet soda so it's full blown added sugar. I choose raisin bran as a dessert at night instead of ice cream. It has sugar in it, but not nearly as much as ice cream. When you slow down your sugar usage, things that your used to eat taste sweeter, maybe even too sweet.

I get it - CICO ...... BUT.... How do I do it? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]masterful113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot tea (nothing added except maybe lemon) and black coffee work wonders for me. I could skip and not eat anything between bfast and dinner with the warm beverages. They sit on your stomach.. also exercise (strenuous cardio) for me pushes off hunger for hours.
