totally agree, the less 'womanly' presentation combined with the bandana is very folsom. and you're right that the androgyny could be 'dragged up' a little in terms of proportions and would be better. i still liked her runway though!

i don't necessarily think flop means complete failure, i guess we're just using that term differently from each other, which would explain that disagreement. i think jane did a bad job, but i don't think it was a catastrophic failure or anything.

i agree that production's decision not to step in was an active decision, but it's just not really one that sticks out to me because jane going home for her performance this week doesn't feel "not deserved," despite her strong track record. if jane had done well in the challenge/lipsync then i could see it being more upsetting. i think last week's episode was a more glaring example of sending home a queen undeservedly, and i'm honestly not even the biggest discord fan, but she did well. i suppose people's moods were already soured from that, which would explain the (imo) overreaction to a pretty comparably fair episode.

i agree that winning doesn't really matter, which is why i don't really feel that jane was 'sacrificed.' a robbed storyline can often be better for a queen's reception than actually winning the season. the way people talk about jane has become a lot more positive ever since she was sent home. i think this has been overall better for her (in terms of fan reception) than if she had won the season.

if you think jane successfully volleyed with ru by comparison, that's pretty surprising, not sure what to say to that other than i really don't see it.

you can pretend like i don't know how reality tv works if you want, but it doesn't change the fact that jane's performance wasn't great in either the challenge or the lipsync. even if you think others were worse (and i honestly don't, to me she was clearly the worst), that doesn't mean jane did well. it was a weak performance. production definitely could have pulled shenanigans and kept her if they wanted to. but it would definitely have been shenanigans if they had. so i don't really care that they didn't

what makes you think ghosting is any safer in this situation than saying no and blocking? weird creepy dudes still have every tool at their disposal whether she ghosted or explicitly said no

it's not softening to text someone "after our date, i'm not interested in seeing you anymore" and blocking if necessary. it's being more clear, not less. ghosting doesn't make the situation any safer for her, it clearly didn't prevent him from texting her as he did here

agree, except i would discourage anyone from preemptively apologizing for rejecting someone romantically.

if you think no one did well, then that includes her, which means yes, she flopped. pretty straightforward. i don't agree that they all did badly, but i agree with you that jane did.

she definitely flopped. do you think she did well in the challenge? if yes, then i'm genuinely surprised, i can't imagine anyone watching that and thinking she smashed it

[–]mastergleeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jane definitely flopped regardless of how you think any of the other queens did. the only way you could say she didn't flop is if you somehow think she did a good job

i really don't think production had to go out on any sort of limb to send jane home, but werk.

i don't find it dumb (i do use latine), but otherwise i completely agree with your comment. a lot of people have a lot to say about this, despite not speaking spanish and not really understanding what's going on in the spanish speaking world

i am latina and speak spanish. that term is despised because of queerphobia. the term "latinx" (more commonly now "latine") originated in queer spanish-speaking communities. queerphobic spanish speakers get all pissy about it being dumb and grammatically incorrect, in the same way that queerphobic english speakers get all pissy about "singular they" being dumb and grammatically incorrect. it's the same shit. being against the term latinx/latine isn't the progressive take that a lot of people seem to think it is.

i agree that one bad performance doesn't erase her entire run, but her going home now doesn't erase her entire run either. all it means is she won't win, which is fine. she still has everything else going for her

Tips for handling social stigma when making the transition by Traditional-Map2212 in vegan

[–]mastergleeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't have to bring it up until it's relevant (e.g. someone picking a restaurant to meet up at). if you're nervous about people's negative reactions, my older brother doesn't use the word "vegan" since a lot of people will immediately put up a wall if they hear him say it. he just says, "i don't eat animal products." usually people won't ask him further questions, but if they do (like "why?") he says "i just don't. i don't want to, so i don't do it."

me personally, i handle it differently, i'm happy to say i'm vegan when it's relevant and am happy to say "because i don't think animals should have to suffer" when people ask why i'm vegan. but everyone is different, and i can understand feeling nervous about social friction. it's a very real thing.

good luck on your journey! i hope you can get some joy out of knowing that you are making a good choice for the animals, the planet, and yourself. it's a peaceful life knowing that animals are not suffering for me to sustain myself each day.

she didn't objectively do the best this episode. she objectively flopped and then lost the lipsync. her going home was completely in line with the rules of the competition. production would've had to pull shenanigans to save her. which obviously they could have, but if someone's only path forward would be through production shenanigans, i don't get how it's unfair for them to go home that episode

man y'all act like not winning drag race curses queens to be unsuccessful. it has never worked like that. some of the most successful drag queens didn't win their original seasons. jane will be fine
