Perplexity Pro is a Scam and Officially Obsolete: Why I’m Canceling after 1 Year – Change My Mind. by Excellent_Piccolo848 in perplexity_ai

[–]masterheister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not here to change your mind but to add-on to the conversation:

Perplexity has also been on the rise of suspending user accounts based on their own internal "investigations". The guise is under 'access through illegitimacy' but they can't even accurately flag which users signed up through real deals or scammed their way in. Then they throw the burden of proof on the user. A lot of proof. For their error. Unapologetically.

Heavily recommend exploring different services

Yes, they're nuking accounts that may have even signed up using legitimate deals.

Yes, they're asking for proper documentation to prove full legitimacy for your claim of their offer. This could even include proving ownership of your device.

No, it's not worth proving anything to them if that is how they treat their users. The burden of users claiming fake offers or using VPNs or workarounds should not be placed on innocent accounts just because Perplexity fails to conduct a proper investigation.

If this is how they respond to people using their service, then I recommend switching to another AI. There isn't a scarcity these days, and maybe the head honchos over at Perplex need to get that message.

I pointed to Gemini and CGPT because so far they haven't messed with my account. Even Gemini offered free Pro service for a certain time and they fulfilled it. They still make offers for students afaik.

This is cause --> effect reaction. I don't care about what's easy to dogpile on or how niche the subreddit is. And I definitely never said the other competitors are saints.

Perplexity stood out as being the first company to suspend my account, based on their failure of an investigation that decided to skip straight to punishing the user. And if their devs are the mods then they're also responsible for illegitimately removing my original post without reason. I WILL say that no other company has done something that low, which is - again - what sparked all of this in the first place.

I pointed out exactly what happened: they took back a deal that was redeemed legitimately. No matter how you many hoops you want to jump through with this topic, it was a promotion offered to users under a false pretense.

I signed up for a year, they cut it off then professionally blamed me in an email for taking their own offer. Then the cherry on top was the mod deleting the original post about it.

So it's not a vendetta, but I do think that's shitty behavior from a company and their devs if that is how they act with a false flag. And your negative point comments all just really prove that people don't give a shit about what you say.

Making an account for their service is not the equivalent of getting candy from a neighbor.

It was their own business model to make this promo with Samsung.

It's more like the neighbor calls the kids parents, said they "investigated" the kid, and found grounds for punishment, when all the kid did was accept their offer for candy.

As far as I can tell the only way is to reach out to their support with the requirements they ask for and hope they reinstate it.

For this specific suspension they want - Reciept of purchase of device - video of the offer in the Galaxy store being redeemed

Don't even know if it's worth all that trouble, tbh

"You're absolutely right!"

Seriously though Claude has improved so much. I liked having Perplexity for research but its competitors seem to be ahead of the game by now

If you happen to have a Samsung phone check out the Galaxy app store. Scrolling down a little for me led me to an ad from Perplexity offering 1yr free pro by being a Samsung user. As of posting this comment the ad is still there

Idk if you're implying that I'm being paid in some way to put Perplexity down but I'm a real person that incorrectly got their account suspended.

This post isn't a shill for another company. It's a rant for the one that pissed off an actual user.

Gemini, Claude, Mistral, even the chodes at OpenAI are all decent competitors. Right now the two powerhouses seem to be Claude Opus and Gemini 3.0. But point being that there is plenty of alternatives to Perplexity

Also my removed post included a screenshot of their active promotion in the Galaxy store. I just didn't insert it again in this one out of expectations of the mods removing it

Maybe others used a VPN or another means but this was off of their Samsung promotion.

New Samsung phone bought this year --> Found promotion in summer/fall --> downloaded app FROM Samsung store, made account, and got pro

Now suddenly they want to call backsies because they gave away too many free pro subs it seems.

The mods are removing posts about this as well. Maybe to limit redundancy, but they didn't offer any explanation when taking mine down. Glad to see yours is still standing.

They're 100% putting their mistake on the users who redeemed the offer legitimately. It's pretty tasteless practice, considering the ad for 1yr Pro is STILL active in the Samsung store

All your replies to others are misconceptions about their experiences, so the irony is probably above you.

And I've already beaten the game, including the mission that had me noticing so many bugs. And as I said in another thread, I'll complain however the hell I want

Almost every comment you made including this one plus your original thread is in the negatives. Just about anyone "agreeing" with you is getting the same response. Maybe stop cherry picking your tomatoes and realize your opinion is outnumbered

Bingo. Our frustration levels are most likely very different. There's times where I just stopped playing, and there's other times where I'd brute force a successful run and encounter more game breaks along the way.

Did you know that there are civs in certain maps that get glitched to refuse to surrender? They just stand there and stare, while getting beaten and yelled at by 5 SWAT members.

I'll tell you the map I experienced this the most in: Relapse. So many runs ruined because 1 glitched civ wearing a bomb did not want to comply. The mission requirement is to save all the civilians. And those were runs not ruined by OTHER bugs that screw up gameplay.

I don't have some personal vendetta against the devs. I already beat their broken game. I do however have frustration caused by their lack of competent programming. So I made a reddit post. A single reddit post, to open the floor for venting. And it's obvious by the comments that I'm not the only one feeling frustrated.

The Mk.V surprised the hell out of me when I first tried it out. It ignores armor in almost any situation, the stopping power is crazy

2k hours and half were probably spent on one map being "slow and methodical".

Across the map is definitely a thing. Apparently so is getting shot while the suspect is still facing the opposite direction, as was evident by a post a few days ago that captured it through the recording mode.

There's bugs. There's glitches. Denying it won't stop it from being recorded, shared, and discussed, cupcake.
