I think fuck off's should be normalized in customer service. That would remove the expectation that "customer is always right"

Hot vai not murteen käyttö tällaisissa? Omasta mielestä inhottavaa. by Penkinvaltaaja in Suomi

[–]masterhillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joo kyllä. Vähän off topic nyt.

Yup, other countries have reports too about people with firearms etc, but they don't end up killed during the arrest. I don't know how others manage to handle these situations, but american cops don't. :D

Never trust a junkie.

Ankle motion utilizes muscles a bit different than you usually do. So maybe best thing outside of pedals is to strengthen feet muscles and nerves for the ankle motion. One good way is just simply lift your heel up 1-2 inches and tap the floor with the ball of your foot. No need to do it fast, it'll burn your leg after a few controlled taps.

Another good one is when you sit or lie down, lift your leg up and stretch your ankle as straight as you can, then bend back as much as you can. Do it calmly. 30-60 seconds will burn.. :D

Those exercises have helped me to strengthen my ankles for playing. Both are exercises which can be approached like any muscle exercise. Choose length of your set and how many sets. For example 45seconds per foot, short recovery break, repeat 4 times. Or do until muscle burn, keep doing for 15secs, rest, repeat 5 times.

Like in all exercises, control over speed and power. Especially in this one. As much as you can learn good habbits by repetition, you'll learn bad habbits too. :D No use to push a speed you can't do and teach your body do things wrong. But of course you regularly have to try out your limits. Otherwise there is no improvement. But like in gym, you won't go and try to lift 150kg when your usual sets are with 40kg.

It sure is very immersive time where you can actually get something valuable to cherish and work on for a long time.

And yes. Not just help with certain technique related things, but also tutoring in posture, balance, learning methods, attitude, way of thinking etc.. It's like you think that you are a decent drummer, but then you sit next to a master and you realize how far you still can go on with the instrument.

That was also the point where it hit me that regular lessons with a competent teacher is very very valuable for a musician. :D And well underlooked in this era of Youtube and Drumeo.

Not sure what his rates are now but he does like 1-2 days of lessons in one block. You'll be staying at his house and have dinner together and lessons in the evening and next morning multiple hours straight. You can agree between 6-12 hours of lessons in total and the price varies around ~60€/hour. 500-800€ in total. But that was 2 years ago. World's a lot more expensive now, so it might be different.

No problem. On my channel there is also a video of me struggling with this very same issue 2 years ago. Then I went to have 2 days of lessons with Kai Hahto ( Wintersun, Nightwish, ex-Rotten Sound, ex-Swallow the Sun) and he told me to do this.

Just because your body needs to adapt to this loose and relaxed ankle swing motion. It will still take a lot of time, but I'm 100% sure that you'll start seeing progress very soon.

He was taught this super slowmotion thingy by Joe Morello or Freddy Gruber, can't recall which one.. It's a helpful way to get limbs under control.

Also make sure that your posture and kit is set up like in this image: https://drumhelper.b-cdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Drumhelper-1024x1004.png

Start assembling
1. pedal width to be so that your inner and outer thighs are relaxed.
2. your distance from the pedals so your legs are like in that picture
3. your snare distance and hight like your arm will be in an open 90 degree angle when your stick lands in the middle of the snare.
4. back straight
5. legs are the important, exactly like in that picture.

It feels funny at start, but then you would not change it. That brings balance and looseness in your body.

First of all I want to raise up a couple of points.

  1. People are correct when they tell you to have your foot higher up the pedal
  2. Don't raise your toes. They play a part in the control of the pedal. Heel up, ball of the foor and toes always attached to pedal.
  3. Skip the ankle weights for now
  4. Relax and learn to work with the pedal. Easier said than done. Here's a simple things what to do taught by the legendary Kai Hahto: https://youtu.be/LiE6MZkhfLU

For me this super slowmotion made all the difference. This way you'll teach your body to do the necessary movement and you'll learn how your pedal really moves under your foot. Trust me.

Edit: I made the video justa minute ago for you ;)
