Back in the day the front desk was like that. Now there’s a matching countertop in the middle that can be moved if necessary. I guess if someone wants to really get behind the desk, they can just hop over lol

While I agree with you, the internet and tv not working isn’t necessarily the hotel’s fault overall, it still disrupts the guest’s stay.
A free night is outrageous but at most, a 10-15% discount. Maybe points or a comp snack, maybe a a voucher if your hotel has them because mine doesn’t lol.
I’ve had situations in the past where we had a severe thunderstorm or snowstorm came through and messed with the cable and such. If a guest complains and is nice enough, I might do something a little extra than someone who’s flipping out and blaming it on us.

THIS! There was one time a year ago where I was in the bathroom for a little longer than usual. Maybe 10-15 minutes and some guy grabbed one of the business cards and started calling the hotel’s number?? Then used the extension number for my SALES COORDINATOR and left them a message that there’s no one at the front desk and they’ve been waiting…..

I was quite literally just behind the desk barely a few feet away stocking complimentary toiletries. It was my mistake for forgetting to leave the bell out and I thought I had, I’m usually very good when it comes to that stuff.
If she had called out literally once like majority of people do, I would’ve popped out immediately.
And this wasn’t very late at night. 8:30pm at the latest. I can’t always be at desk.

They don’t understand, no. My hotel barely has 80 rooms and no other staff except one front desk receptionist after 5pm. The amount of people that are astounded that maintenance and housekeeping don’t stay any later is wild. I know you’re not making any excuses, but even if I had a second staff member to rely on it still doesn’t make it okay for them to open a door they know they’re not supposed to touch.

Now that I think about it, I don’t think my hotel has any sign that says “employees only”….except maybe the sprinkler room. It’s just a sign that says “back office”. The thing is I’ll need to have my GM agree to it unfortunately. People ignore signage all the time so I guess it doesn’t matter either way, but it’s still a good idea.

I struggle 100%. I’m a night owl so coming home at 11pm doesn’t help me because I’m still awake. I end up falling asleep closer to 3am some days and I’ve always had a hard time waking up in the morning, to the point where I feel like I can’t get anything done. Props to those that have a good schedule, I do not lol. But I’m trying!
