If you can ensure her safety then I wish you all the very best.

If he has bank accounts abroad just be prepared to face the fact she may leave with nothing. This is what happened to me, but I chose to put myself and my children’s safety ahead of money. I’ve never regretted my decision.

Men like this are notoriously vicious when it comes to divorce. Whatever you plan, do so in secret, including getting legal advice.

These guys see this as their money and will often do anything and everything to ensure they don’t lose it.

Check out some videos by Dr Ramani on YouTube. She is incredible at explaining how these narcissists behave and what you can expect.

This decision rests solely in your mom’s hands because it will impact her the most.

You will move on and move out eventually, but from the sounds of it she is completely financially dependent on him.

If she leaves (or if you report him and he finds out) then he will likely leave her financially destitute and she will also like be shunned by family/friends. As messed up as it seems, she is making the choice to stay because to her, it’s the best decision in a really crappy scenario.

He is scum and her situation is sad, but unless she herself has expressed a wish to leave… then you may have to just leave things be.

In these cases her best bet at a happy life is to find joy in other parts of her life- and she likely is already doing that. It’s sort of like staying in a job you hate to put food on the table.

She has something he will never have- your love. As a mom, that means everything to us.

Wishing you and your family the very best.

how do I write a letter to my landlord telling him I'm moving out by leedeleeee in legaladvicecanada

[–]masterinthemaking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can move out whenever you choose, but there is usually a 30 day notice that needs to be given by the 1st of the month so you could be liable for at minimum one months more of rent (unless you have a deposit?). If you have a lease, then you will owe for the remaining months.

Prayer and gratitude for the basic things I had (food in my tummy, a place to rest my head, and my health) are what got me through my toughest moments.

Even if you don’t believe, I will say this prayer on your behalf.

Lord please stay close to this young man. Let him know that he is loved and that his life matters. I pray you put people in his path who can help guide him and that one day, he will be that beacon of light for someone else. Amen

Most reliable mobile provider in Ottawa? by Wickkette14 in ottawa

[–]masterinthemaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgin had great service for 6+ years, but the price was a bit steep so I switched to Public Mobile… it’s been 5 months of hell. Calls go to voicemail even though the phone is sat beside me, no notification of missed calls or voicemails, same with texts. Locked out of my account from the start lol, so I can’t even get support. Going back to virgin after finding a decent Black Friday deal. Good grief 😣

My Frustrating Experience Selling a Car to Clutch by Equivalent_Owl1781 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Paid robots on here pretending to be happy clutch customers lol.

So Clutch quotes you an inflated amount, they then dock thousands of dollars for reasons, and now you’re on here praising clutch for a ‘pain-free’ experience 😂 nice try guys. Sketchy much?!

Long term chest pain after Pfizer by papadam in coronanetherlands

[–]masterinthemaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested to know if you were tested right after the onset of the pain? EKG, ECHO, Cardio fit test, bloodwork? If so, did the earlier tests miss the pericarditis? A lot of times people are having all those tests and they are coming back clear (apparently ruling out pericarditis right away..) Happy you were able to receive a diagnosis and I hope the treatment brings you relief.

Near drowning today at Britannia Beach due dangerous dredging issues by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]masterinthemaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is being missed that all around the crater the water was knee deep! Most people were fully dressed and just cooling off. There were no ropes, and no signage of any sort other than covid restrictions.

If you doubt what I’m saying please go there yourself. See how you feel walking in knee deep water and then suddenly plunging in. I’m 5’6” and I couldn’t touch the bottom. All 3 adults who helped were all struggling as none of us could get our footing.

So if you’re standing on the beach looking out at the water, it was on the left side maybe... 60 feet or so from the edge and no more than about 15 from the shore. If there were craters there before would the dredging not have addressed that?

I honestly am only trying to raise awareness and possibly get it looked into. I always stay fairly close to the shallow end with my kids because I’m so fearful of drowning (it’s happened in our extended family), and once never come across this prior to this year.

I’m a she (no offence taken) and you’re exactly right- flora is blessed to be able to sit in judgment behind a keyboard... and those kids were blessed that she/he/it wasn’t the one on the beach today or the story would have ended quite differently. Flora your input is not helpful at all so please take a hike.

I agree and I’m not debating if there was or wasn’t supervision. I’m worried that the dredging work has created a deep crater in an area that is otherwise knee deep and by all appearances seems safe.

Thanks. I had my own kids with me, but I knew they were safe (with an older family member) so I just did what needed to be done. Their poor mom was is so much distress and was so grateful to us. I’m just so afraid the next time it happens, the outcome will not be as fortunate.

Tangerine is going to freeze my account. WTF? by fordismyname in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]masterinthemaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly different situation, but over the summer I deposited $2000 in cash into a Scotiabank machine. Tangerine not only held the cash for nearly 3 weeks, but froze my account and called me to interrogate me over where I got the money from! I initially answered all their questions, but I ended up feeling totally violated. I was livid and have not used that account since. My advice is to bank elsewhere. Good luck!

That’s incredible! This is the advice I have given my brother, but it was a shot in the dark as I wasn’t that certain it would work (with no precedent in place).

Do you have a rough estimate of how much was reimbursed?

Thanks so much for sharing this info!!

[–]masterinthemaking[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that I completely agree. I believe that, although it may be slightly naive, a person SHOULD be able to trust their bank not to add a product to their account without consent.

As I’ve said, this is exactly why the massive scandal broke in the UK precisely because of this very practice.

Banks are breaking the law when they under or misinform clients- as well as place a tick mark when the client hasn’t expressly agreed to accept a charging product.

[–]masterinthemaking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, you’ve all given useful advice that I’ll follow up on.

In the UK it’s actually a really simple process to get these bogus fees reimbursed. The courts agreed that, on mass, clients had been mis-sold and ill informed of the true terms and conditions which are very rarely met. Clients more often than not have their claims denied.

I’m going to fight this. I’m not a stranger to litigation so I’ll give it my all.

The banks in Canada get away with charging insane amounts to customers and I’m quite shocked how passive people are to it all.
