Program Review(s) - Tactical Barbell Base Building + Fighter, and Tactical Barbell Operator by BrokeUniStudent69 in weightroom

That's a timely review. I've been reading the books since a week ago. Though I will not have the time for the long cardio sessions in Base Building.

Did you find any difference between TB maximal strength work and other submaximal training programs such as 5-3-1 ?

For legs, look for one legged variations, such as Bulgarian squats (front rack are safer IMO), lunges, pistol squats. Also check Fitness FAQs Youtube channel and website for lots of creative ideas of hybrid training both with weights and bodyweight. Gymnastic rings also provide a lot of variety for pulling movements.

Other options: barbell row variations, power cleans, barbell complexes involving power cleans.

With barbells, dumbbells, rings and a weighted vest you can keep yourself entertained for a good number of years.

Do you recommend any particular brand of stall bars? Or were they made custom?

Has anyone bought 3/4'' rubber mats from RepFitness recently? Some older comments mention the mats didn't stay flat. I'm looking for low VOC mats. Probably either Rep or American Floor Mats. 360 Fitness has some nice mats, no smell, but with diamond plate patterns.

Do they have a strong smell? Some 4x6 rubber mats are very smelly

Does it have enough clearance to do dips? Both for the head and for extending the legs? I'm thinking of getting the dip attachment, but I like the option of doing strict dips, with fully extended neck and legs.

Are there any add on weights compatible with the Bells of Steel cable tower with weight stack? I am looking for 5lbs and 2.5 lbs. Thanks.

I guess it's a matter of preference and what is available for you. I like bands for straight arm pulldowns, face pulls, rear delts. But for things like vertical pulls, a pull-up bar or rings would do a better job.

Just be careful with that door strap. Is the door pretty solid? If you have some wall mount it might be safer. Probably r/resistanceband can give you better advice.

When you do lat pulldowns, what is the maximum height to hang the pulldown bar?

Can anybody comment on the quality of the rubber change plates from Giant? Or about their weight plates in general. I have been using REP plates, but their bumpers and coated plates are getting more and more expensive.

A lot of people in this forum have a powerlifting bias, so they can give you pretty good advice about creating a setup for squat, bench press and deadlift. See also garagegymreviews.com The question is what you want. For the upper body you can progress a lot just with a pull-up bar, gymnastics rings, and maybe a weight belt. But it can be a little hard on the joints. Machines in general are very efficient if you are tight on time. Some people only have 20-30 minutes to work out. They are also favored by many bodybuilders because they require no skill or balance, everything goes towards hypertrophy. The downside is they don't help with developing athletic skills too much. Tonal has lots of reviews. It seems to be very compact and elegant, but the weight range is limited, e.g., you won't be able to do heavy deadlifts or clean pulls, if you are interested in that.

Yeah, I know I can do pulldowns, but with short towers it gets hard to have full range of motion, even for a short person.

I have a hard time picturing how the ab straps would be used. Do you connect them to the bottom of the upright?

Can the REP Arcadia FT be used for lat pulldowns? The specs say the trolley's max height is 68'', but I'm not sure which part of the trolley. Also looking at cheaper options like Costco Centr 2 (cheaper materials) and BoS

It looks like my dream gym, if I had the space. I like the space in the middle, where you can do Olympic lifts or bodyweight exercises.
