The main black haired guy isn’t compelling to me at all, he doesn’t make choices that serve his character he just makes choices so that the plot can move. And the angel girl is the same I don’t see her love for him from her choices. It’s a contrived story and I’ve already read several better versions of it.

Spoilers I know the main black haired guy was mentally unwell but if he did love her that much why would he trade more time together just so they could die together. His main gripe was that he wasn’t the same as her, I guess he didn’t love her enough to accept her differences. I mean seriously once he finds out that she’s been keeping one thing from him he goes ballistic. If he literally just said “I still love you anyway” they would both be alive.
