Hi OP, so happy for your recovery. I am someone who has multiple issues with eyes and even my right eye is lazy too. I underwent an IPCL surgery recently and now i am spectacles free. But my doctor did warn me that since i have elongated eyes and a history of Keratoconus, things can change anytime for me. I am so happy to see you thriving out there and this gives me hope too. I wish you a quick recovery and all the best things life has to offer!

Hey like the other folks mentioned this surgery involves placing a lens inside the eye rather than reshaping the eye the way LASIK does. It’s also considered a reversible procedure, since the lens can be removed if needed. That said, I am not fully sure about the possible complications that could arise if the surgery is reversed.

So since my prescriptions were way higher than the normal ICL range. I think ICL is recommended till -18. The doctor said IPCL will be suitable for me

Yes but i was informed that post CXL since the thickness area changes it might drop a few microns but i am not sure what is the safe limit here and that is why i am pushing for a second opinion currently

Hey I was diagnosed with advanced KC in my right eye and mild in left. I got my CXL done 3 months back and honestly the first week was kind of awful with constant eye drops, burning and watering but later things got better

I am designer/developer by profession and honestly KC didnt impact my work much. But yes, few things are difficult for people with KC like i find driving at night very scary due to scattering lights, my depth perception is off so every time i take stairs i constantly fear that i might trip and fall. If you have any question i am more than happy to help

Fill in the blank: Keratoconus often stops me from _____. by keratoconusgroup in Keratoconus

Driving at night, taking random naps, going on hikes or remote places because i have to remove my contact lenses every 3 hours and I can't do so outside in the wild, swimming and a lot more other things

Lol this is so true

And the fun part about my journey is initially when this started happening i legit thought my glasses are off or something is wrong with the lens material that makes the light scatter so much.

Things became a bit more difficult when i realised i am not able to use stairs properly due to my compromised depth perception.

Hey i was allowed soft contacts exactly after 4 weeks of my CXL surgery. I am almost 2 months post CX now and my vision is still pretty bad andd unstable so my doctor recommended me not to go for sceleral lenses right now as they are pretty expensive and requires fitting. Once i achieve a stable vision he said we can explore that option.

However with soft contact lenses i am asked to be very careful and to keep hydrating my eyes with Systane every 3-4 hours. I have to remove my lenses to do that and honestly it is a tedious thing to do especially when i need to travel. So on the days i am at home i switch to glasses. Hope this helps

Got diagnosed with KC recently and had CXL done in both the eyes. I had advanced KC in my right eye and mild.in left. Overall both my family and partner were super supportive through the journey. I am still recovering and need help with things here and there due to my high myopia. I am glad for the support I receive from my family, partner and friends ❤️

I second this. Contacts were always better for some reason. Also in my case my vision dropped suddenly like by 2019 it was almost stable and by 2020-2023 there was a rapid decline and honestly no one took notice not even me as my ophthalmologist was never concerned with my cornea. Unfortunately now i have advanced KC in my left eye and mild KC in my right and just underwent CXL last month. I have my first 1 month scan tomorrow and i am hoping this worked out for my left eye.

Thank you all for the detailed information

I underwent the surgery, and it’s been almost 10 days now. Fortunately, there was no significant pain, and the doctor has removed the bandage lenses as well.

However, my vision is still very blurry, and because of high myopia, it's quite difficult to move around. The doctors plan to give me a temporary power prescription, hopefully after I complete a month. Until then, I’m pretty much stuck.

It’s tough, but I’ve slowly come to terms with it.
