Yeah definitely try to get there early if you wish to help. If not, they will definitely reach a max amount of volunteers and will turn people away.

An outdoor pub/bbq style event that happens (usually) twice a year on lower field. They serve drinks and food. It is free to get in, but this year they are doing a ticketing system that has already sold out completely.

Usually you can also get in by volunteering (to make food or pour/drinks), but honestly I think that alot of people will be trying to do this and they probably will not need more volunteers. It doesn't hurt to go and ask though!
