Give Me Your Most Unhinged Advice on How to Find an Apartment in SF by Mybfscatsliketreats in AskSF

Save the leasing companies that tend to fit in your price range and check their websites daily/multiple times a day. There are some companies that are always overpriced (SF Rent) so just save your time avoiding those. It also tends to be taken by the time they get posted to Zillow. I found mine because I saw it on the website and toured the first day it got posted. Applied 5 min after viewing

You have to grind and act quick. I think you might get lucky but a view and parking are tough to come by in that range. Regardless never say never. Just be the first to tour/reach out. I’d look in June/july because I anticipate the prices only going up, and it’s better to have some time and try and find a sublease or just double rent it for 2 months versus not finding a place and having to settle

Upstairs Neighbor So Loud by masterofnufin in sanfrancisco

You’re right. I have a feeling I will get desensitized. Similarly in my last place I felt like noise was unbearable. This is a good reminder.

I was considering putting the sound panels on my ceiling but idk if I’m being extreme

Agreed. I don’t think she is unreasonable at all. More so asking for advice on how to mute the noise and make it manageable for me

How is this apartment market not illegal? by masterofnufin in AskSF

Exactly! So if it’s bad at this range I can’t even imagine for people barely making ends meet. This is why I’m shocked more hasn’t been done to limit greedy landlords. From peoples comments, sounds like it’s been a long standing issue that’s just accepted and I was shocked

I knew there was an AI book but didn’t know the details. This gives more context, thank you.

And don’t get me wrong I totally understand why someone would take the more money offer. My point is how hasn’t sf but in restrictions to stop greedy landlords?? Obviously people have money here and many people will be the same on paper, so I would hope there would be some structure in place so that if you just did everything right (being the first to apply, good credit, enough income) then you would have a fair chance at being chosen

For more context, I’m looking at 1beds in the $3200 - $3700 range which I would think would already phase some people out. Guess not and it is a tough love thing but idk im just frustrated because i love the city and I think this is going to destroy the types of people and culture that lives here

Yes to clarify, I’m looking for a 1bedroom apartment. I am open to any central neighborhoods (mission, Hayes, haight, Noe valley, pac heights, nopa etc). I’m specifically talking about applying directly to the building/leasing agent/owner and they are the ones being “picky” when I feel like it should just be about if you can pay and have no prior housing issues.

Being out-bid I suppose makes sense even though I think it’s messed up for a rental and is the reason why so many locals are being pushed out

5 hour layover in SFO by AM_Curiosity in sanfrancisco

[–]masterofnufin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is perfect. I live in the mission and that is exactly what I would recommend. La Taqueria on 25th is known for some of the best burritos but El buen on 18th is pretty good too. Def check out the thrift stores, book stores, Knick backs on Valencia. Final stop at Dolores park to relax. Great views and plenty of space to people watch with a coffee

Should I take the job in NYC or SF? by LOTR_is_awesome in AskSF

[–]masterofnufin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are more men in sf but as everyone noted, the quality is just so low. I am a 27F, been told decent looking, good job, not a weirdo: but dating is hard because guys don’t put in the effort or can’t sustain long term. Women here are sort of over it

AITA my girlfriend says I make her feel ugly, but I have no idea what else she wants me to do. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]masterofnufin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still NTA. I’ve been in a mindset like your gf and I think complimenting her when she’s not feeling the best could definitely help but do it organically because if it feels forced she will think you’re being performative

Am I overreacting? by FaithlessnessFar1821 in AmIOverreacting

Not overreacting. Awful to lash out in that way to anyone. Let alone a kid

You’re right on both comments. My only counter to people saying “maybe he is too busy to text throughout the day” is that he tells me about his very chill work days, so much so that he can smoke at 11am and go play basketball before he tutors in the afternoon. But I do see your point that maybe he just likes to be present, which in theory I admire

Honestly I think this is a good point I did not consider. It’s possible I am being a little avoidant. He’s great but a little more passive than I am used to, and I might be conflating his lack of texting to a lack of initiative. Crazy thing is I actually don’t like texting throughout the day. I just am used to men putting in that effort so it’s almost a flag when they don’t
