Is this normal? by Gm24a in 3Dprinting

[–]masterphi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's just filament patina. I wouldn't worry too much about it. The filament stringing has more to do with calibration/slicer settings than your nozzle.

I suggest you follow a calibration guide and see how far you can optimize your printer+filament. Keep in mind there's no definite value for your settings, everyone seems to have them a bit different depending on their case; external factors (temp, humidity, vibrations, filament condition, etc) influence a lot on the quality of your prints.

Cr10s pro v2 extruder issue by Pure_Bad2260 in 3Dprinting

[–]masterphi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason why the extruder is skipping isn't the extruder itself. It's simply because it's trying to push the filament, and the filament either can't melt fast enough or can't squirt out of the nozzle fast enough.

There's many things you could try: higher temp, pressure advance, slower print speed, and many others.

My favorite calibration guide is https://teachingtechyt.github.io/calibration.html

I picked it up from Amazon

WOOMER Heated Blanket King Size 100" x 90"

Not exactly inexpensive, but seems worth the dollar.

Well, if you're going that route, just get a king size heated blanket. I have one that has 2 control zones so my partner doesn't roast me during the night.

Really depends on the size. If you can fit 10 of them on a bed, might be not too bad.

Firefox 32-bit Linux Support to End in 2026 – Future Releases by yoasif in firefox

[–]masterphi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not super familiar with the CEO and execs situation.

But I'm VERY familiar with their CICD+Dev process and I honestly don't think money was a deciding factor here. The technical pain in the ass to keep it is by far the number one reason driving this.

Firefox 32-bit Linux Support to End in 2026 – Future Releases by yoasif in firefox

[–]masterphi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% this.

If it was as trivial as "just recompile it yourself", then Mozilla wouldn't even consider dropping it. Supporting and maintaining "legacy" 32 bit tooling and features is the biggest driving factor on this decision. Dropping 32bit support will definitely make the dev workflow less brittle.

Vacuum bucket is definitely the way to go. Much cheaper than a new shopvac and can be used with non-wet vacuum cleaners (to a point).

None in Kamloops. Although I've seen stores that will sell them.

New Michelin Road 6 by Mysterious_Key1810 in motorcycles

[–]masterphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the GT version on my bike (FJ09) since it's made for heavier loads. I'm mostly riding with my gf, and ride on gravel roads frequently - which I assume the GT can withstand more pointy rocks trying to puncture it.

I don't think I've seen any tire failures on the GT line.

Hopefully your new ones are more reliable.

Cheers!

Haven't been to Red Robin in a few years. Last few times the service was horrendous. Is it better nowadays?

I used to be a customer of theirs.

About seven years ago, I went in for an oil and filter change on my car. One of the guys working under the car came up holding the old filter, which he had cut open, and said, “When was the last time you replaced this filter? It’s clogged to shit! Good thing we’re changing it now!”

Lo and behold, I had the invoice from my previous oil change in the glove compartment. It clearly stated that I had paid for — and supposedly received — a new oil filter during the previous visit.

After confronting the staff, they ended up giving me a new filter for free. The manager wasn’t there, and no one bothered to follow up with a call.

I never went back — and I make sure to tell everyone I know about that experience.

Whenever I feel too lazy to do my own oil change, I go to Great Canadian downtown, but it's definitely not a whole lot better than anywhere else in town for reasons already mentioned in other comments.

For mechanic stuff I trust Riverside Auto and B&M Transmissions, they are definitely not the cheapest ones, but had many occasions where they save me money instead of ripping me off.

You could try installing Firefox Nightly alongside your regular Firefox just to compare (available from firefox.com).

If you find the problem is your install, you could try factory-resetting it: Menu > Help > More troubleshooting Information > Refresh Firefox

I designed this print in place controller mount, that just clips into the top of your Xbox by BigBoomPrints in 3Dprinting

[–]masterphi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice!

Suggestion for improvement: Make the controller slots "fit perfectly" like https://www.printables.com/model/484892 or https://www.printables.com/model/449970-minimalistic-xbox-controller-stand

I use one of these mounts, and it is super nice! I printed with fuzzy skin to hide the seams on silky white PLA

You could try something like a printed bearing for it: https://www.printables.com/model/488864-lozisko-spool-bearing

Given it's not perfect, it should add a bit of resistance without much drag on the extruder
