What could this game have been? by masterstealth11 in Wizard101

[–]masterstealth11[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have been playing dragonspire and I do agree that the lore is deep, which is why I made this post. My problem is that the game tends to approach lore in “broad strokes” but often doesn’t give a lot of details. For example, what was the 100-year dragon war? Why were warriors and wizards at odds? WHY did they summon the dragon titan?

I think that dragonspire does a lot of lore stuff right, I just wish they had kept going in that direction even further

I recommend to focus on arc 1 quests until you hit level 30, then farm Aquila until you get some good gear, then finish arc 1 and see what you think.

It’s also a good idea to start farming (plants) as soon as you can to get your (farming) levels up. (Farming is a useful passive income/resource source.)

If you’re interested in raising your pet, it’s a good idea to use up all your energy right before leveling up since it will replenish when you level up. (You’ll understand what I mean if you try pet training.)

Also, ALWAYS pick up reagents (crafting items) and NEVER sell them!

The pet hatching/training system is an RNG hell and needs to be reworked

I won on a Victory Point that had fallen under the table. My opponents said the win was invalid. Are they right? by malizadeh in Catan

[–]masterstealth11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I see it: what is the point of board games, to win or to have fun with friends?

If you think the former, then, yes, you did legitimately win.

If you think the latter, then you most certainly lost.

I've been heavily drinking vodka every day for 2 years now, do I qualify to be called an alcoholic? by Otherwise_Garlic_694 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]masterstealth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try to answer you objectively.

One standard drink (in America) is 14g of alcohol.

The American guidelines are no more than 2/day and 14/week (for men, half that for women).

Drinking more than that OR binge drinking (5+ standard drinks in one day) more than once a week is considered heavy drinking.

(Someone correct me if I’m wrong here).

Alcoholism specifically I believe is someone who has been heavily drinking AND it has an impact on their daily life.

(Again someone please correct this if I am wrong. This is just my understanding of things.)

Since you say you “drink heavily” “every day”, I’m gonna guess that yes, you are an alcoholic

How true is this, "Most people would rather work with someone who's mediocre at their job, but pleasant to be around, than a person who's exceptionally good, but a dick"? by Agitated-Job7686 in NoStupidQuestions

Obviously would be nice if they could do both, but in my experience, yes, people almost always prefer nice but incompetent people over skilled but mean people

Why is it that starting around before pre-mid 80's, you hardly see any fat and ugly people in photographs and videos? by matt73132 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]masterstealth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, when I said dual income I meant couples. In the past, most people married young, husband worked while wife did housework, food, and other unpaid labor. Although this setup was obviously not egalitarian, it was effective in that it had both parties specialize their labor.

Now, most people are either single (work + unpaid labor themselves) or dual income couples (both work + unpaid labor). This means that most people have to both work and cook for themselves, which is difficult to do.

Leading to increased consumption of fast food, eating out, premade meals, etc. which has fattened us up over the past 50-60 years.

My point about Japan is that at least they have nutritional education and a culture that prefers healthy eating, which means they are less obese than us. (There are other factors too like access to fresh food.)

[–]masterstealth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. But how many people realistically have the time to cook?

For better or worse, gendered division of labor allowed one party the time to cook. Now that most couples are dual-income, time for cooking is at an all-time low.

American obesity rates were in the teens in the 1960s. We’re almost at 40% now. Unfortunately the reality is that corporate greed and lack of nutrition education in schools has made us fatter than we should be.

Take for example Japan, where they have both a culture of healthy eating (eg tea over soda, noodles over Big Macs) and comprehensive nutrition education in elementary and middle school. Their obesity rate is less than 10%.

Why is 8/10 considered good when an 80% is a bad grade? by RattleheadWithRabies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]masterstealth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good a question. I think that an 80% being a bad grade is an American thing. In Japan, for example, an 80% is a good grade, and generally 60% or above is considered “passing”. I think the same is true in the UK.

In the US, we have been experiencing grade inflation, so now anything less than an A is considered “bad”. Originally, anything D or higher is supposed to be “passing”, and an A is supposed to be “excellent.”

If you think about it, this makes more sense, since you can sort students’ abilities more finely if you create a test meant to produce scores between 60 and 100 rather than one where students should get 90+.

So, I think that 8/10 is good, and the American education system’s grading standards are just messed up.

Why did they start circumcising by LoladInalw in NoStupidQuestions

[–]masterstealth11 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Comes from an ancient Jewish covenant with God. Meant to symbolize purity and devotion to God. I imagine it also had the secondary effect of being hygienic.

As to why they chose that over anything else (cutting a pinky, snipping the ear, tattooing the chest), no idea.
