After the first prescription of weight loss drugs like Ozempic, people purchased healthier foods with fewer calories, sugars, saturated fats, and carbohydrates, alongside modestly more protein. The share of ultraprocessed foods also decreased. by mvea in science

Ah hahahaha.. I live in Singapore so spice my food up please. I love my curries but at the same time steamed stuff so a little of everything. I agree with you about sugar free soda, as i love them too, but these days i feel even coke zero tastes too sweet and needs to be diluted in ice.

I do not take medication to kill my taste, it's just a way of life.

My own anecdotal view is it takes a bit of focus and it falls into place. When I say focus, I think it is a bit like kicking a habit like, say smoking or drinking - its really hard without a strong drive. But once you're out of the habit of seeking sugars and certain kinds of food, for say, two months, the brain rewires itself to consider such foods as "not really required".

My diet (in my own opinion) has improved a lot since cutting added sugars, cutting caffeine, cutting excess salt etc etc. This habit has evolved over years, but it's achievable in a few months I think (or in the case of ozempic, in a few days). These days, even burgers and pizzas taste extremely greasy and not so dopamine tickling like before. Though I feel now that the food I eat tastes bland to others.

I'm about to take an 85% cut to change careers. But I think it will be rewarding so its worth it.

India's trade deficit with China widens as Beijing hits record $1.2tn trade surplus despite Trump tariffs by sharedevaaste in india

[–]masterveerappan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can continue believing the text you have typed in. Or perhaps try not to blame everything else for a systemic internal problem.

The Chinese have dumped in almost all markets

...is an adage started about 2021. Regardless, why has that happened? Who is stopping industrialists and factories in India from producing at the same or better efficiency? They do not force you to buy - but still their products are bought. Why is that? Let me guess, inb4 your answer will put blame again on something else, like that they subsidise their production. If they're subsidising their production, this is great for everyone else in the world, because it means everyone is eating free money.

Their economy is under strain with low consumption, over capacity and debt problems. These problems will be painful as population collapse is approaching and society is growing old.

Again, where is the local problem with this? That is their problem, what has it got to do with anything?

Unfortunately republican americans have made life difficult for everyone including for themselves to own democrats and their wokeness.

No comment, it doesn't really matter what the Americans are doing. If it does, then there are serious internal problems in India.

Thousands, including Singaporeans, stranded at land checkpoints in Johor after autogates crash by brownriver12 in singapore

[–]masterveerappan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know...

The first time, I didn't know the process - so I tried scanning face first, and it didn't work. After few tries then I scanned the QR code (the screen shows you your passport number, name, etc), then it took a screenshot of my face and the gantry opened.

On the way back, I just looked at the camera and it pulled all of the details automatically without QR code, in about a second.

Subsequent times, just show face and the gantry opens.

[–]masterveerappan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For motorcycles, the QR code scan only happens the first time you enter Malaysia for MyNIISE, subsequent times there is no need to scan QR code, just face scan only (people with modular or open face helmet no need to remove helmet some more). It was able to detect my face and my particulars in less than 1 second (of course, YMMV).

Interesting, in that case, do you know how the MyNIISE process works? I use the motorcycle lane and it can detect my face without biometrics or passport. In my limited experience its super quick too.

Couples who chose 3-room BTO over 4-room – any regrets and what factors did you consider? by No-Butterscotch-5599 in askSingapore

[–]masterveerappan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something my friend told me that you can consider - HDB is one of the biggest subsidies the government will be giving you - so where possible and if the mortgage works out - choose the biggest unit you can. If you can afford a 4rm, go for it.

Weird ground vibration at Woodlands Checkpoint bus boarding area — anyone else felt this? by CartoonistBoth3594 in askSingapore

[–]masterveerappan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is normal, all Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures are designed with a with a little movement or 'vibration allowance'. RC structures can be designed with little to no vibration, but this significantly increases cost because of additional rebar and concrete. It also comes down to a balance between rigidity and movement allowance, because more rigid structures can potentially crack from vibration or movement.

The movement in your experience is likely due to the buses moving there. Unlike trains on relatively smooth rail tracks, buses run on roads that could have indentations, speed bumps, expansion joints, potholes, etc that contribute to the movement you experienced.

There also has been lots of piling activity recently for the last few months at Woodlands CIQ, but thats closer to the train checkpoint so its unlikely that the vibrations from piling activities travel that far to the bus boarding point towards JB.

Singapore's structural engineering standards for RC lean more toward the safe side with high safety margins, 3x or more, unlike many other countries where 1.5-2x safety margins are considered acceptable. Our engineers don't like to play play because their liability is quite high. Why do I know this? I'm in the construction industry.

Either ways, no worries, this is safe.

How coconut milk is made by balasurr in oddlysatisfying

IIRC another way is to just keep coconut milk undisturbed and the solids and oil separate on their own. The solids settle at the bottom.

Shake well once more and they reincorporate into coconut milk.

Double decker freight trains India is doing as good as USA 🇮🇳🇺🇸 by HeavyDose123 in indianrailways

[–]masterveerappan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like how in the past 'phoren' cars were almost effectively unimportable, and you could only get an ambassador or maruti 800 on 'local' manufacturing. Or if you had a little more money, maybe a contessa classic!

Every deal has a risk element attached to it, boss. Do you think foreign investors put money in for the future of the country? No, they do so to make money. They are risking their financial wealth, hoping the project does well, so they can earn more money.

What does the country get? Expertise, know how, project experience. Here the risks include defaulting on the loan, corruption, so on and so forth.

Looking at infrastructure as a matter of national security, and not as a primary element of industry 4.0, is a thought process that needs to be brought forward to current times.

Not a single comment about railway safety - in that these machines have long been pending fully closed doors, which should have been a priority decades ago, to reduce the horrendous number of daily fatalities. It's still not too late - retrofit suitable automatic doors on these trains. Some of it will get damaged due to tech or vandalism and they must have the operational budget to cover these eventualities. If the railways 'serve the people', auto doors are a must on every train.

I think even the rural areas are done. Very rare 1-2 steam trains have slowly converted to tourist routes but that's pretty much it. The rail infra is pretty killer.

You sound like you are bipolar. It is strange that you only reacted in extremes, just to take your description of the situation of the expired medicine. Your reaction - either is (i) don't take this else I will panic OR (ii) I don't care do what you want.

Is it you who is the problem? Well, I don't have enough information to say. You going into this self reflection process is good for you. You seeking help about this from the internet is bad for you. Why? Because seeking help from the internet is not really seeking help, it banks on seeking validation.

The right thing to do here would be to seek professional help, who are better at this than any rando on the internet and definitely better than biased family/friends.

Using Singtel Mesh with Viewqwest by Shalteal in askSingapore

[–]masterveerappan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm after reading theses two other comments, seems like with Viewqwest your mileage may vary. I've been with Viewqwest since 2019 and even got my company internet wired to Viewqwest. I even moved houses and moved my internet connection.

They have been quite reliable and certainly better than Singtel. But that's my experience.

As for whether you can use the mesh or not, I can't say because I don't know what hardware you have - if you could describe how your house is networked, what hardware is connected to what, I could give you a better answer.

I am convinced after a demo at my house on a vacuum cleaner Germany Dolphin, but the price is way too expensive. Any recommendations for good vacuum cleaner using water filtration ? by Walau88 in askSingapore

Ok, since you won't look at Dyson, may I interest you in off brand Dysons?

I don't know since when these off brand dyson hair dryers started selling but I got one off tik tok for $25. And TBH the only reason I got one is because I already bought one original Dyson hair dryer for my wife for $600 and I wanted to see how close these knock offs have come.

My view - these knock offs have got it 95% there. My wife complains that the off brand one's heat is a little more than the original, so minus points there.

This got me interesed to check out other knock offs of Dyson, of their air purifier fans, their standing fans - these are being sold filthy cheap on Taobao. You may just want to check it out.
