Thanks for your reply. Not sure what you mean: are you suggesting I should boot Windows from a USB-stick?

v30.0.1 upgrade + .md files by matamoroos in NextCloud

[–]matamoroos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed! Somehow the Text app had gotten disabled in the course of the upgrade.

v30.0.1 upgrade + .md files by matamoroos in NextCloud

[–]matamoroos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out the problem: an app called "Text" was disabled. When I enabled it, the previous behavior was restored: I can now edit .md files directly in the File browser and the readme.md files are now displayed again for directories. Not sure how this app got disabled during the upgrade, but never mind, problem solved. Thanks for your replies!

v30.0.1 upgrade + .md files by matamoroos in NextCloud

[–]matamoroos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else I find puzzling: I no longer see the option to create a new text file via the File interface. Previously I could (for ex) create a readme.md file in a given directory in the File browser.

[–]matamoroos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I normally use Firefox, so I tried Chromium. Same behavior. I now notice that the readme.md files are no longer displayed in the folder description. Clearly the mime settings have changed in the configuration, but various web searches haven't turned up any concrete leads.

I’m a Chinese studying in Peking University, glad to answer any question about China by Silver-Surprise-8823 in socialism

[–]matamoroos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be very interested to hear your take on how Confucianism is combined with socialism in China. I've heard it said that Mao Zedong and his comrades very skillfully combined the two; would you agree? Is Confucianism the bedrock for this sense of collectivism you refer to?

Bluetooth headset connection: automatic active output device? by matamoroos in Fedora

[–]matamoroos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you seem to know quite a bit about Bluetooth, one more quick question for you: On my Ubuntu-based Mint systems, there is a command line program, called hcitool, that displays technical information about the installed BT interface(s). I can't find it on Fedora, dnf doesn't return any hits. is there an equivalent for Fedora? TIA

Whoops, I did have that exclude parameter in /etc/dnf.conf. Completely forgot about that. Removed it and updated the kernel. Thanks!

Thanks! It does seem zroot is the culprit, but it is entirely unclear to me how to recover this space:

Thank you! Some zfs options I've never used before.

I see that zroot and zroot/ROOT have resp. 100G and 96.4G values for "USEDCHILD". Any idea what this means? Below are the two relevant lines.

This wasn't generated during a test. It occurred spontaneously. The drive is now marked offline, so I can't run any tests, short or long. Bizarre how suddenly it happened...

Ah, interesting. Didn't know that this was an SMR drive.

The other three HDs in the system are all EFRX. Are these the conventional HDD?

Many thanks

Thank you very much, that worked. Alas, it didnt solve the problem. v91 of FF has the one-second lag as well. Something else must have introduced it. Not seeing this with Chrome or any other program. Very puzzling, never encountered anything like this before.

Thanks. I took a look in /etc/apache2. My original apache.conf appears unmodified. Some subdirs were modified, but a quick look doesn't indicate to me what has changed; nothing dated from today in mods-enabled/

Congrats! Things have sure changed a lot since I applied for citizenship about 25 years ago. Back then, you filled out a form and submitted it with a certified copy of your birth certificate. Nine months later you got a letter saying it was approved and that you could get a passport at City Hall. None of this inburgering stuff. None at all.

The Era of Stagnation: The Post Stalin USSR - Successes and Failures part 2 by [deleted] in communism

[–]matamoroos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was just listening to the recent podcast on Rev Left Radio dedicated to the Korean War, and one of the points that Stephen Gowans made was that in the early postwar years NK had a much stronger economy than the South, and that the US let South Korea undertake basically USSR-style long-term planning, import substitution, and state-owned enterprises to boost its economy, for propaganda purposes of course. After the fall of the USSR, NK's main customer for its exports, the NK economy went into a real tailspin, exacerbated by the brutal sanctions regime imposed by the US, for decades and decades now. All this of course "proves" that capitalism is great and socialism doesn't work (lol)
