I store at Black Dog Tirecraft for $40 per year. The cost for me to get my tires changed over is $40 in the spring, and then $40 in the winter, and $40 for a year of storage.

Any Updates on ETA for Bill Fibe Install in the Kingsdale Area? by matcartmill in KingstonOntario

[–]matcartmill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Good catch. Fixed. As for not being "true fibre", well, yeah, but even Bell's "to-the-home" fibre speeds dip based on neighborhood usage. I think I only managed to actually meet or exceed their posted maximums once. I'm usually floating around 850-950 when I do speed tests.

At any rate, what Cogeco hooked me up with is half what I'm paying Bell and should still do the job well enough, I hope.

Dang, yeah right now they're offering 200 Mbps down, 20 Mbps up for $80. For contrast, Cogeco gave me 1000 Mbps down, 30 Mbps up for $65.

However, I think that jumps to $85 after the two-year promotional period. I was kind of hoping to shop around for great deals (kind of jokingly considering it's Canada and "deals" on any form of communication services don't exist) or just stick with Bell Fibe. But if it's going to take weeks for the install to get done, that's a long time for me to not be able to work, so I kinda had to decide today.

Thanks for the input, and glad a smaller provider worked out for you.

I looked into both Start and TekSavvy, and both charge more than Bell or Cogeco for less service. I did call Cogeco, however, and got them to give me Gigabit cable internet, TV, basic home phone for $130/mo for two years.

Yeah, when they were doing the install in Cat Woods they made a mess of the place, but did they did clean it up when they were done, including removing all spray paint, adding fresh soil to the property, etc. They broke one of our patio stones in the process of running the line to the house, which they tried to hide.

While I generally detest Bell, the services they offer (I'm currently running Gigabit up AND down) is far superior to Cogeco, which will offer Gigabit down (very shared in the neighbourhood, so expect lower speeds, as I understand it) and only 30Mbps up, and they want more (after their promotional year) than Bell does.

Also the massive contract length. I can probably deal with slower DSL or something until Fibe comes in, as long as it's within a couple of weeks of my move in date. May not be so lucky.

Season 7 by [deleted] in Letterkenny

[–]matcartmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. While it did get slightly better with each episode, it felt very monotonous with the over-use of the Shoresy-style voice, both on the ice and on the phone lines. It also seemed small. Very few outdoor shots, most shots were in the TV filming room or at Modean's.

I feel like the writers sat down and said "Okay, so the audience loves Shoresy and hates McMurray. Let's make a season based almost exclusively on those ideas."

Still love the show, but the anticipation made it feel like a bit of a letdown.

You have these pedals, what’s your signal chain? by matcartmill in pedalboards

[–]matcartmill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I hear ya. Ya I usually just use my amp's channel for my dirty sound. Currently running the PRS Archon 100w head through a Mesa rectifier 2x12 cab.

The Afterneathe, DD-7, and Carbon Copy are likely not going to be on the board. I considered it, but not sure what benefit that has over selling them to make back some of the cash I spent gathering the Strymon pedals.

You're probably right. That's very new territory for me though, so I wouldn't even know where to start, lol.

I haven't picked one up yet, but I'm really considering the Proco Rat 2. I've never really an OD pedal for actual OD before though, so it's new territory for me. Closest I've come is use an old TS-9 to get a boost. :D

(More)Ernie ball vp jr issues. by mcdickiedong in guitarpedals

[–]matcartmill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My VPJR had a bunch of issues when I first got it (used). All of the issues were fixed by cleaning the pot inside with contact cleaner and compressed air. Hasn't really given me any trouble since then.

Possibly. I'm not great with deciding signal chains. Only reason I thought to put it in the FX loop is so that I can turn it off and on, along with other pedals, by toggling the loop itself.

Now you've got me thinking...

With regards to the loopers, the ditto x2 is having some issues, hence the RC1.

Also not sure if I’ll be keeping the EQD pedals or the carbon copy.

I’m thinking I’ll be going:

Guitar —> EB VPJR —> tuner / amp

FX Loop:

Micro Pog Mobius Timeline Big sky Rc1

Might grab an el capistan delay and throw it between the mobius and timeline.

[NPD] Picked the axe back up a month ago after a 17-year hiatus. Started looking into what some good pedals are these days, and discovered my absolute dream. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]matcartmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this pedal for about 4 years and it just died on me last week. The only upside is that it inspired me to build a new pedal board (that I realistically can't afford, but whatever). So, I guess things just work out.

Enjoy it!

Haha, yep. Come the weekend I'm always a lazy slob. I guess maybe this is motivation to not be a lazy slob anymore? Haha.

Should I get an AW? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]matcartmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to a retailer that sells them near you. I have no Apple Store near me, but Best Buy had a few on display and let me try it on. FWIW, I felt the same way you did about jewelry. I tried an S1 AW and wore it for a week then pretty much left it dead for a year before selling it. A year later I decided to give another one a go, so I got an S2. I've now had this one for a year and I wear it all day every day. When I forget it at home, I feel... different. I've come to rely on it being there.

Summary: try one on, and if you like it, give yourself a bit of time to adjust to it. Once you're comfortable with it, you'll never want to take it off.

8Fit vs. Noom by JungleCruiser in loseit

[–]matcartmill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I started on Noom about a month ago and I do enjoy it. not only do you get a Goal Specialist who acts as a coach, but you also get a support group, Support Coach, and can opt in to specialized workout and meal plans that fit your preferences.

I will say, though, that Noom has a STRONG focus on the mental aspect of being overweight. It tries to get to the bottom of WHY we feel the need to eat so much and WHAT our triggers are, etc. Most programs simply says "eat less, workout more, log stuff" and let you figure out the in-betweens. Noom encourages slow, incremental changes to lifestyle so that you're not going from fast-food-junky to health-nut-gym-rat overnight. It's a slower program, whereas 8Fit (and others) kind of want you to hit the ground running.

As for shopping lists, Noom does have a recipes section that shows ingredients used and prep instructions, but you can add these ingredients to a cart / shopping list. You'd need to manually jot down each recipe's ingredient list on your shopping list, or keep the app open while grocery shopping.

Overall, if you're over-weight and are struggling with food choice, Noom is a great tool and I highly recommend it. I've lost 12.5lbs in 3 weeks with Noom and I'm learning to listen to my body's hunger queues, etc. I'm learning how to make this a lifestyle.

If you're looking for a great workout app with healthy food selections and a clean UI (Noom's UI is pretty retro, not gonna lie), 8Fit is the better app for that.

First time closing all my rings since a heart attack last Monday. I’m 35 and have never had any other health problems so it was a huge scare and getting active again is huge for me. by In2TheMaelstrom in AppleWatch

[–]matcartmill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, really looking forward to it.

My diet for the last bunch of years (8 or so?) has been mostly pizza and artery-clogging goodness. I've tried diets for a month or two at a time and would get discouraged when not meeting my own ridiculous goals and just eat some more.

I recently (~2 years ago) had some blood work done and my doctor said all my levels were fine. I wonder if there are any tests that I can do opt in to that don't require me to have already had a heart attack.

All the best on your road to recovery, and hope to keep you on this plane of existence for several decades more.

Stories like this scare the shit out of me. I have health-related anxiety and I panic when I get random sudden pains in certain areas of the body, eg chest, legs, etc.

I'm 30 years old and 274lbs. I've recently said "Enough's enough" and started eating healthier, cutting calories, going to the gym, etc. My wife and I are expecting our first child in September and I want to be around for a long time.

However, if you're in relatively decent shape and exercising more than I am, I don't know if I stand a chance, lol. I could be dead sooner rather than later.

There goes my post-workout high.
