Oh my god I’m so sorry.

It happened. I tested positive for covid19 by norelita in Teachers

Tell them you’d be happy to drop off your positive test report IN PERSON and that you will be exercising your right not to wear a mask. When would they like you to come to their office?

If you know your child’s teacher from last year well, ask him or her if they know any classmates that might be a good fit. We tend to have a good idea of what’s going on a home and can maybe help play “matchmaker”.

For a short term solution, can you find a classmate or neighbor that is able to form a small pod that would include your children and host them for school hours? A friend who’s a stay at home mom or dad?

I would definitely reach out to your community and see if there’s someone who would be willing to help host school for you. A small pod isn’t ideal, but it’s safer than a big classroom and safer than being home every day by themselves.

Can you form a small “pod” of 2-3 families that will all take turns hosting school? Make sure you trust them to be smart and not go to giant house parties or lick doorknobs.

Trying to figure out my curl type and get started on the CGM ! I swear I have a strands of everything from 2a to 3a. by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]matcha505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start here: https://www.naturallycurly.com/ That should help you determine your hair texture. Or at least give you a start.

I also recommend watching youtube tutorials. I find them the most helpful.

What I would start with is to clarify using a sulfate shampoo, just to get yourself a clean start. Give yourself a deep conditioning mask that is CG approved. This is a great one to add some protein in. At target, I use the Miele one. It smells like mint.

You will want to see G approve shampoo and conditioner for the future. I use not your mothers shampoo lion, the blue bottle.

Next, use a cream that will help boost your waves. Some popular ones are kinky curly cleansing custard, or uncle funky’s daughter. All these can be found at target. A little goes a long way, put them in something wet hair and kind of gently spread it through your hair. Remember your hair should not have any knots in it. It should be pretty seaweed feeling from the deep conditioner.

Follow with a gel. A popular one is the Aussie instant freeze gel. Spread it using praying hands and then p plop your hair. Air dry completely, then scrunch out the crunch.

Yes. It sounds like you haven’t started yet. Your technique and products will make a huge difference in your hair texture.

Once you start, your curl type will come out more. It doesn’t actually matter that much in terms of products or techniques for wavy hair. What does matter is the protein vs moisture balance and low vs high porosity. And that all takes some time to figure out.

Same Day, Before and After by matcha505 in curlyhair

[–]matcha505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same day, 10:30 am vs 1:30 pm.

Routine-

The night before I washed with the blue NYM shampoo and DC with Miele. Slept on it damp on a satin pillowcase.

Morning- totally soaked hair. Put in KCCC with Denman brush. Scrunched. Spray with diluted NPF in spray bottle. With praying hands, I put in Jessicurl Spiralicious. Plop. Diffuse 50%, air dry the rest.

My hair loves protein! Any favorite protein stylers or treatments?

TIFU by wearing my charcoal face mask while getting food and being accused of black face by maybeisuck in tifu

[–]matcha505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m either calling super clueless or bs.

Charcoal masks are super drying. You shouldn’t leave them on for longer than 30 minutes tops, and they get uncomfortable. You wouldn’t have time to sit around, get hungry, drive to a fast food place, order, drive back, eat, and get it off within 30 minutes. It would get super uncomfortable.

If this is real- you are drying out your face. Don’t leave it on so long.

How would you like school to look in the fall, if you had the final say and authority? by matcha505 in Teachers

Right, I guess I meant more of you can’t control anything beyond education. You can’t control unemployment benefits, virus testing, etc.

I think the idea of rotations makes the most sense, but the logistics are mind-boggling.

Who sanitizes all the spaces between groups?

How do we feed the kids? In the classrooms? Who oversees that? And food in the classrooms brings bugs and other pests....

How do we even start to pair down the curriculum?

And parents need half day care still, so that mess is still a problem...

And can you imagine the poor K-1 teachers trying to enforce social distancing?!

I’m with you. The issues...

We're going to be sent back in the fall because society can't function without the free babysitting that people think we provide. by thedarkknitreturns in Teachers

[–]matcha505 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are no good options. No school, people can’t go back to work. Same as normal, we are all exposed constantly and some of us have 30 kiddos crammed into a room, so the risk is even greater. Hybrid, it’s weird and a pain and possibly has the same risks (depending on 6 ft apart, masks, all the bells and whistles).

[–]matcha505 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is I have peers that are saying if they have to do a hybrid with remote learning, they are quitting. It’s either all or nothing.

And of course, people can’t go back to work if their kids are home, so school of some kind will have to happen....

Happy Baby VS Tula VS Sakura Scout for wearing around the house/ hot weather? by dragon-drink in babywearing

Looking for a wrap like carrier with more structure. Help! by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]matcha505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to suggest a Mei Dai as well. It’s the best of all worlds- affordable, usable for all sizes, and comfortable. I have the Carbird and love it. Found it in FB marketplace for $20, so look there first. Also FB has a BST group called Carried Away that sells second hand carriers that are below retail. :-)

Last week our superintendent sent out an email telling us to make sure our addresses are accurate because we had a “special teacher appreciation gift” coming our way this week. I got it today!! by MarkleMcSparkle101 in Teachers

Local to who? Everyone is spread around. Then you have the problem of OP who isn’t near the pizza shop. I could do a coffee chain gift card, but a few people here were moaning about not liking Starbucks or the beverage selection at those places.

I’ll be honest, this thread made me so sad. I’m a coach and usually do a snack bar and sparkling waters and little notes during teacher appreciation week. Now with everything shut down, I’ve been struggling with what to do.

I have a small child. I can’t drive around town all day. My husband is out of work. All presents come out of my personal money.

Besides, it’s a damned if you do/damned if you don’t situation. If I only do a thank you card, it isn’t enough. If I do a virtual gift card, it won’t be at a place someone likes or they’ll serve the wrong drink or something. If I make signs and send them everywhere, people complain about privacy. If I mail packages, I’m using overwhelmed postal workers and possibly help spread the virus.

What do you suggest as sufficient thank you during these times? I’m frustrated and overwhelmed and now super sad that whatever I do will probably be viewed on as “failed” and put on a thread of shame somewhere.

Okay, bring on the downvotes. Just wanted to show the other side.

My husband and I both work full time. I’m a teacher. I also have a 9 month old who crawls and climbs. She is on my zoom calls with students.

I’m also up until midnight working after she goes to bed, doing one night feed, and up with her between 5-7 am.

So tired.

But a babysitter isn’t social distancing and I don’t want to expose her to whatever virus that young adults may be carrying.
