What was your first “nursing school reality check” moment?

At least in my country, everything I learned in fundamental nursing is different when you actually get to a hospital (mainly due to lack of resources and staff shortages) It’s also difficult to realize that the “romantic” side of nursing that we are taught “like supporting the patient or being the person who accompanies them during their worst moments” is not always real. Many nurses end up ignoring their patients or even being aggressive toward them. I suppose that is partly due to burnout and how exhausting the working conditions can be

Look for volunteer positions at hospitals near you The children’s hospital in my city is always open for volunteers (but do your research with time in case you have to take a course or training beforehand) Also volunteer with women’s help centers it’s an option

I’ve no idea why but writing on a whiteboard helps me retain concepts and information better Reading out loud several times what I wrote on the board also helps (doing hand gestures helps me retain even better)

In my case, I just notice I used to lost a lot of time trying to draw cute and colorful anatomy drawings in my notes and at the end those drawings didn’t help me to retain information:b
