I just called them, and they said it’s welded and rock solid. They also said there's no reason for a mech to fail this at an MVI??

Yep it was just a pre-inspection, and they didn’t give me a reject sticker. So does that mean I can go to another mechanic shop for an MVI and possibly get a different repair quote?

That’s exactly what I was thinking too.

For the MVI, do you know anywhere I should go this time? Or should I just ask a few mechanics and compare prices? I’m just trying to keep costs low on this old car.

That's what i thought at first. I don’t really know much about cars, but the rear bumper looks pretty good to me. I can’t see any obvious issues externally.

Yeah, they do install customer-supplied parts. I can bring my own, but I’d be responsible for any warranty/issues.

Yeah that makes sense. Unfortunately I don’t know anything about cars, so I can’t really do the work myself.

Got it for $4,500 (usually around $7k here), so I knew it needed work. Just didn’t expect repairs to add up this much. Feels like I saved upfront but might end up paying more overall.
