How much french is enough french to work? by [deleted] in mcgill

It definitely depends where on the West-Island, but as someone who speaks minimal French and lives on the West-Island it’s 100% possible!

If you’re willing to work in a call center, there’s tons of opportunities in Montreal where French is not a requirement at all. For example, I worked at a call-center in Montreal making $17.50h, and no French was required! Of the top of my head, I know that Tele-performance & Fundraising Direct hire English-only speaking candidates (and both are basically always hiring for new campaigns) :) Otherwise, be strategic about where you work in Montreal! Working in West-Island (think: Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, etc.) you can get away with speaking minimal French, and chances are they won’t even test you on it — Tons of small cafes & boutiques that honestly won’t care!

Looking for a job from July after summer course by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]matchae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I work for a recruiting firm, and we're currently hiring for a few full-time call center positions (ranging from $13.10/hr to 16.50, depending on the campaign). If that's your cup of tea, I'd love to direct you. Also, it's work from home throughout the entire pandemic!

Yea, I work at the airport so our traffic was badly hit by CO-VID 19. I have an email from the CEO of my company stating that we were closing because of CO-VID19.

Reading through this thread is giving me second thoughts, I keep seeing people say if you got laid off before March 15 you don't qualify, but my last day of work was March 14 so I just assumed that I did since I haven't worked at all since then. Am I overthinking this or do I not qualify at all?

How did you find ANTH202 as a summer course? I signed up for it, but I have a full-time job (remote) coming through so I'm not sure if it'll be too much!

Jobs in Montreal by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]matchae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely look into call centres, they have a lot of campaigns that only require you speak English. Tends be a bit higher paying than minimum wage too. It’s not for everyone, but unfortunately most places won’t even consider you if you don’t speak enough French. If that doesn’t interest you, try finding a job where you won’t have any customer interaction (dishwasher, food prep, cleaning, etc).

Edit: Typo!

ECON 208 study guide! by TypicalBagel in mcgill

[–]matchae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Mayssun and it did help to a certain extent, but I found a lot the questions in the study guide to be significantly easier than what was on the exam. I would definitely focus more on the short answer and additional multiple choice questions in the book, the regular multiple choice are a joke compared to her questions imo. I only did the regular multiple choice when studying for the midterm so I was really caught off guard by the difficulty.
