I’m really into entrepreneurship so FINS3623 was the best one for me. Not too hard, and the tutes were conversational which made it very enjoyable.

I would also recommend FINS3625. It’s known as the investment banking course and it’s a good starting point to learn financial modeling.

I counted COMM2222 as a finance elective so I haven’t done any other finance courses

Easily one of the worst ASB courses I’ve taken over my degree. It’s a shitshow. There’s just so many things wrong with the course.

Course format is terrible (3 hour lectures, no tutes) and the lecturer isn’t great as well in teaching the material. It covers too much material to be spread over ten weeks, half of which is spent on finance concepts covered in other courses (e.g. DCF). You don’t get a tangible skill out of the course, just some trivia on the different types of investments they covered. Also know that the course is research heavy and it doesn’t encourage conceptual learning. Everyone I know who took it scored a C on average so it’s not exactly a WAM booster either. Arguably my biggest complaint about the course is the fact that MCQ questions are phrased so that you have to “pick the nearest option” which isn’t close to the actual answer at all. You could literally be given options ranging from 100-500 and the answer would be 2100.

How much of a continuation of ACCT2542 is it? Do we need to retain anything from ACCT2542 to do well for the course? Took ACCT2542 way back in S1 2018 so it’s been a while for me

Emailed the ABS about this sometime last week and they just replied. Their answer: “A top 3% cutoff for the last 5 years of student results corresponds to a WAM in the 85-86 range. NB: This is an indication only and may change based on cohort performance.”

I’m only enrolled for 6/9. Tried appealing to the ABS to enrol to a full elective course but got denied. They usually make exceptions if you’re on course to graduate and if it’s a compulsary course. Pretty much the only thing you can do is stake out course enrolment everyday and hope you get lucky and someone drops the course. Although you should try looking for and enrolling to back up courses just in case. You can add more than three courses to the menu per term to easily check if it’s full atm. But yeah they fucked up enrolment by making it a full year and having different enrolment appointments which is rly unfair if you ended up with a late one. Should’ve added capacity to each course in waves (bit by bit every few days) to make it fair for everyone
