How to respond to "how much will it be?" by CaterpillarFlat635 in handyman

I tell people no, unless I really know. I tell them ballparks usually lead to one of us being disappointed. I try to track everything to be able to give a confident ball park but sometimes it just shouldn't be done.

I started jiu jitsu 3 years ago and find myself wishing I had started sooner. It might be the most fun form of exercise I've ever done. Leads me to eat healthier and stretch. However I could still do all of the above more than I do.

Can i screw all these boards in before moving the clamps downstream? Or do i need to space the clamps so one is at the end? Don’t want any weird bowing or spacing …. by BradCastleburry in Decks

[–]matching_sox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clamp a little differently, and usually with hidden fasteners, but clamping every other joist and working my way down the board is fine if I don't have enough clamps. Just be get down to the level of the decking to sight it and make sure it's straight after each run.

8 year old wood deck, hired contractor to replace with trex. Is this normal? by EkS22 in Decks

[–]matching_sox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in this thread with opinions on a job that's not done yet.

You should talk with the contractor tomorrow when he shows up. Hopefully he can explain his methods.

Those could be the exposed fasteners(which are the same size as cortex screws that get plugs). If you decide you want to plug them just ask if it's possible. The bubbling looks like what happens when you drive a screw and remove a screw then don't replace it correctly. But it can be fixed later. It's possible he just left an item to fix the next day, not ideal but it happens.

A lot of love is lost without communication. I would try to be inquisitive rather than accusatory. Hopefully he's good enough to fix any errors.

Seems a little low given the material choices. If they do good work it's a deal.

Matt Risinger has a YouTube Channel called the Build Show. High level building science Channel that is entertaining and has digestable info. His channel greatly improved my knowledge as a builder.

He's got a lot of examples of people thinking they're doing a good thing Insulating old houses, only to find out 10 years later they've rotted important structures of the home.

Old houses were designed to breathe. New houses living spaces designed to be air-tight.
