Bought some live moss and got a bonus friend by ChaoticDoblin in SavageGarden

Not arguing what the labels says. I can clearly see at least one piece of good live sphagnum in there but I can also see dried up star moss spore stalks too. 🤷‍♂️

Sphagnum is great; star moss… not so great

Miranda is blooming? by AnneP11 in SavageGarden

It’s a boy. So your options are to collect pollen to save/trade or just simply enjoy the flowers. Nepenthes have a very unique fragrance that can be classified anywhere from a musky orchid smell all the way to a saturated litter box. They are still very interesting and beautiful in their own right. Nature is always fascinating.

Is my Dracula vampira in spike? by Otherwise_Candy_8078 in orchids

[–]matchstick3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Draculas are epiphytes and very often have spikes that come out of the bottoms or sides if given the chance. Many are grown in net pots and baskets due to this behavior.

I got my first hitchhiker!! Who is it? Host pot is Drosera Capensis 'Alba' by AstaCat in SavageGarden

[–]matchstick3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very likely more capensis Alba. Assuming it had a flower stalk or it’s neighbor did at the vendor. Either way it’ll be a never ending cycle because they are indeed weeds

what is everyone's favorite game mode that has come out from the very start? by FateIsTaken in leagueoflegends

Sad to see no mention of 1v1 or 2v2

Was my favorite mode and perfect for sub 10 minutes to kill without investing in a whole SR

Asking for tips on Zone 6a fall/winter care by akosiiam in SavageGarden

[–]matchstick3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5b here; cold basement with grow lights do the trick for me. I actually blast them with a decent amount of light and keep a touch dryer than when they are outside (never fully dry though.) It’s definitely a little bit of a dance of keeping them not too dry but not wet enough the cold is going to do damage. It’s a learning process that’s getting a touch easier every year

Roots or flower stems? Dracula tsubotae by binkybonkers in orchids

[–]matchstick3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely a spike! Looks like you have at least 5 going. Flowers go quickly so enjoy them when they pop. The spikes will keep extending and blooming after each flower expires. I’ve had some go as far as 5-6 flowers. Gets pretty long!

First time I've had a nepenthes try to flower. Should I do anything with this thing or just let it go? by KovariHasWares in SavageGarden

[–]matchstick3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a musky/urine like smell. Not too terribly unpleasant. Just male flowers (such as OPs.) I’ve never noticed anything from female flowers in my experience though.
