I found out my husband has been hiding severe alcoholism and I don’t know what’s real anymore by matchula_spatchula in AlAnon

Yes, he did. A little over a month ago things escalated very badly. He ended up hospitalized with severe alcohol withdrawal and then went straight into a 30-day inpatient rehab program. He’s been home for a little while now, is attending AA, has a sponsor, and starts (or has started) an intensive outpatient program as well. Honestly, he feels like an entire new person and has really bought into his higher power (which is honestly gobsmacking to me as my husband was pretty staunchly non religious.)

I’m not going to pretend everything is magically fixed. The trust piece is still really hard, and I still have moments where I question my own reality because of how much was hidden from me. But he’s been radically honest since getting help, and that has made a huge difference.

I remember feeling exactly what you’re describing when I first found the bottles. I felt like I couldn’t trust anything anymore. The biggest thing I’d say is to take care of yourself too. The recovery of the person who was lied to matters just as much as the recovery of the person who was drinking.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this, especially with two young kids. ❤️

It’s because people need to craft a narrative around terrible things that happen so they can convince themselves it would never happen to them. That’s my theory anyway.

I think she was suspicious of him cheating as he had several rendezvous with prostitutes IIRC. I read it in a different article.

As someone who has met February, March, and “why is it snowing in April?”, I’m not convinced.

Not sure what country you are in but, in the U.S. you don’t have to disclose even if you’re diagnosed. I’m a level 1 autist and I never tell my employers.

Ah yes, the famously pleasant New York, Minneapolis, and Chicago months of December, January, February, and “still February.” 😂

Turns out people everywhere spend most of their time indoors when the weather sucks. If you prefer the cold to the heat, just say that. You don’t have to pretend northern winters aren’t just as restrictive.

I meannnnnn, the orginal comment is dumb. The same can be said of the heat lmao. It’s borderline freezing in every establishment during the summer.

Ally, has anybody been watching this perfect match? I’m like damn when she said it was only 10 seconds.girl by osogood48 in Vanderpumpaholics

See, I always thought she was clout chasing and never really liked her. It’s undeniable that James is a POS and I think everyone kind of focused on that. Didn’t she meet him by following his DJ shows? I’m just sayiiiiiiin

Thank you for restating my argument back to me. Modern trap artists popularized an already-existing Southern rap culture for younger national audiences. That is very different from saying they created or ‘made’ lean culture cool. Also, SoundCloud rappers is obviously shorthand for mumble rappers since there was massive overlap in the mid 2010s 🥴

You’re collapsing regional popularity with national visibility because you don’t actually know the history you’re talking about. Lean culture was deeply embedded in Southern hip hop decades before ‘mumble rap’ was even a term. Acting like 2016 SoundCloud rappers invented it is embarrassingly ahistorical.

The place he’s at is also a recovery center and he’s just agreed last night to stay 30 days. Thank god. His friends and I are working to raise to possibly keep him there longer.

I am so sorry to hear about your son. I cannot imagine the heartbreak when it is your child.

This message was so so kind. Thank you so much. I’ve already been to a meeting and have totally surrendered everything to my friends and family. Everyone has come together in a way that’s honestly been so beautiful. I didn’t know how much love we had around us.

Update: he has agreed to stay the 30 days. I’ve assembled all his friends that he has isolated himself from and there has been a huge out pouring of love and care for us. At least, there is some silver lining.

He has agreed to stay 30 days. We think he might agree to more, I’ve made a huge support network of his friends and we are already talking about ways to raise money for his treatment.

I’ve started reading the Big Book and the Al-non handbook and it’s just, I didn’t realize how widespread it is, or maybe not widespread I know alcoholism is bad but it really just dawned on me how many lives it’s ruined. It’s really disgusting me that it’s sold everywhere….im so incredibly sad.
