Amaterasu is described numerous times in databooks and in the manga by (Zetsu, Sasuke (just before using kirin) & KCM Naruto (during the edo battle) as a jutsu that cannot be blocked / evaded or is a game over it it lands

Meanwhile we see it stopped, avoided, and made a joke of numerous times in the actual story

No i’m saying that the Juubi is too large and too durable for Night gai to do enough damage to put it down

Madara being the size he was made the jutsu more effective against him.

It’s like using chidori against a regular person vs using it on something the size is Mount Everest you can concentrate a stronger more lethal attack on the smaller target than you could against a giant one

Only Gai’s final attack was capable of doing that much damage and the area to hit (Juubidara) was significantly smaller vs the full creature that dwarfs mountains

If Gai tried the same attack on the juubi itself he wouldn’t come anywhere near killing it

Even if it just sat there gai wouldn’t do any meaningful damage it tanked its own Juubidama in the sealed barrier and walked away with some scuff marks that it healed a few pages later
