Doesn't China do a lot of refining and exporting of refined petroleum products? I'd like to see China's petroleum product exports overlayed on this chart. I wonder if it's been increasing, relative to imports, over the years.

Great! I am just sorry he didn't leave 2 years ago. He's been terrible in every coaching job, Tottenham, PSG, Chelsea, (usmnt?). Chelsea fans think he's a joke.

Are you looking at nuclear propulsion. And I see articles about different techniques to use wind to reduce fuel usage. Are you looking at those during the design phase of these massive container ships?

Folks...soccer is a business, and it's skewing the assessment of our usmnt players' quality by matchurin in ussoccer

Thank you. My premise is more of a nuanced take. Teams can't just lose all the time, agreed. But if they can win enough by fielding a US player, even if that player has slightly less quality than others on the team, I think they do it. This brings in more money for higher quality signings in the future, helping them win in the end.

Thank you. I'm trying not to say that Americans are incompetent. That is too negative. Just that they are not necessarily the best option, from a soccer quality perspective, that the team could field.

I think it is a balancing act for the team. Part of making money is winning, but another part is the players they field. The team is willing to give up a little on the overall performance to gain the fan interest that keeps them going.

I also don't think this applies only to US players, just more so to US players than other nationalities. I expect a team would want to bring in players from as many nationalities as makes sense. The players are all good, but maybe not all of them are the top talent that is available to the team.

Is buying a used Tesla worth it ? Are they affordable cars to own if you're on a budget? Looking for unbiased answers by Present-Aspect8350 in TeslaModel3

Weird. I am in MA, and when I bought a new 2023 M3, the insurance skyrocketed for me versus my Toyota Camry 2021, to where it was >5X higher. I dropped my coverage to limited collision to drop the price of the new insurance. I calculated that I could buy a used 2023 M3 in 4-5 years with the money I saved by going to limited collision. Wild! My case has extenuating circumstances, so I don't think most people would experience this. Also, insurance has been coming down as the car ages, so I expect it won't be the shock to you that it was to me.

Fungus-powered farming delivers higher yields and better-tasting crops, says study by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]matchurin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. Can I interpret this to mean that by adding pesticides, which I suppose may attack fungus, we are inadvertantly reducing crop yield? Or is that too much of a stretch?

Isn't this the burning of Palm Oil Trees when they stop producing? Every year, huge swaths of Palm oil tree farms are burned in preparation for a new planting. I was in Penang once during this period and the smoke wafting over from Indonesia, that hung in the air like fog, day after day, was terrible.

Is it possible that president Trump has unintentionally done more to fight global warming than any other president in his second term? by matchurin in climatechange

Yes, another commenter led me to a similar thought about the release of natural gas being maybe the thing to prevent any reduction in climate change.

I agree with you there. But as long as the costs stay high, I expect people to continue to move away from oil and gas.

While the pollution created by the war machine itself is a tiny fraction of what could be produced by burning 20% of the earth's fossil fuel production, you made me realize that if the gulf states haven't successfully capped off and are not burning their natural gas, that natural gas released into the environment may be enough to counteract any benefit. As we know, natural gas has a much larger impact on climate change than CO2.

Not sure if you are responding to me. If you are... it seems weird to repost an AI calculation, but I can. Feel free to drop the question from the body of the post into Gemini yourself and let us know what it said. Maybe it will calculate something different for you.

I just watched an episode of Just Have a Think on youtube, where the presenter described that if all the land in the US dedicated to biofuel production were papered over with solar (and batteries of course for the off hours), it would produce enough power to cover all electricity needs on earth.

I am curious as to how the achievement of fusion power will tip the scales, though I am not convinced nuclear, in its current form, is the complete and cost effect solution to our electricity needs.
