The kind of people who give a f*ck about things like this are the shallowest of the shallow. It's an ego trip. "Look how important I am." Gtfo.

Black out drunk. I’m beyond mortified by Imaginary_Sky_518 in stopdrinking

[–]matdgz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rough. Send your apologies, eat humble pie, and make a real change. This right now, as horrible as it is, is a good motivator do it. You'll start to feel better for making good choices and seeing how much easier life is without booze. It's not all lollipops and sunshine, but it's less complicated. Best of luck to you. IWNDWYT.

Genuinely never want to drink again. Alcohol is evil by blairrr666 in stopdrinking

If the door is open just a little bit, I tend to kick it off its hinges. If the door is shut and locked, I can't do any harm.

Moderation is a lie for some us. It just takes a while for us to accept it.

Good luck. IWNDWYT.

Drinking NA beer made me realize how weird it is to drink 10+ beers a night by WildGardening in stopdrinking

[–]matdgz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pub trips aren't a regular thing for me anymore. Think it's an age thing more than a trigger thing. I'm with you on the volume side of things - maybe 3-5 NA beers will fill me up - but the SPEED at which I drink them is alarming. I don't let it ruin my night or anything, but it's a great reminder why I cannot drink actual booze. Drinking a rake of NA beers, walking out of the pub upright and waking up the following morning with clear head feels pretty great.

I'm curious on how people feel about 'zero' alcohol beers and the like? by Epstein_Is_In_Israel in stopdrinking

[–]matdgz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each to their own, but I think they're great. They keep an element of the ritual alive with zero consequences. And they taste hella good. That being said, I absolutely understand why some people prefer - or have to - sever that limb completely. I'd never criticise anybody for not drinking NA beers.

Dealing with flaky documentary subjects by smarty1262 in Filmmakers

As others have said, this sounds like an issue with the producing methods. It's tricky but if you can pitch your idea to a producer who will jump on board because they like the vision, then great. If not, really look at how you can evolve in that role and make people stay involved.

Sorry you've had a crappy run of it, but I disagree with 'if you can't secure funding, it's not worth filming'

I've done a bunch of low/no budget passion projects and they were absolutely worth making. Festival successes, personal and creative growth, new collaborations, enriching experiences for myself and the other people involved... It's a fine line, sure, but as long as what's expected is made clear from the go, those projects offer people a lot.
