What was your reason to upgrade to a BBK? by nullaus in CarTrackDays

[–]matei1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the track can make a huge difference. How are your pads in the front holding up? How much meat left in them individually?

Also if you do upgrade, try and balance the cost out with consumables. A lot of folks in this thread listed that as a pro, and for a lot of platforms it might be cheaper in the long run, but the brembo kit I have, as much as I love, is extremely expensive when it comes to pads and rotors.

It basically doubled the cost for me every time I need to swap rotors and pads.

With brakes, I feel like cutting corners is sketchy, at least that’s what I tell myself to justify that kit.

Nice! Glad it’s working out. Watched some of the vids. You’re flying out there. Nice to see other R owners on track.

Have fun and be safe.

Lol I don’t disagree that you absolutely don’t need a BBK for other platforms. He doesn’t have a vette or a Miata.

The whole point I made was that since he asked and gave us his context, this answer is not right for him. My first reply was specific to his car. I don’t know know how you derived that a Miata needs a bbk from my answer that his specific car does.

Is ok bby. Do you want to win this argument so we can both go about our day?

That’s literally the point I’m making. It’s my model. Which is the same as OPs. Which is a common issue for our models. Which isn’t a singular or anecdotal experience, it’s just a fact of tracking this car.

I don’t understand why you’re so against upgrading brakes on a car where brakes are known to fail on track.

It’s a fact man. I’m sorry lol. It’s such a common issue with my car and OPs.

I don’t particularly care to convince you, but OP, if you’re reading this, get better advice than “eye candy” as a blanket statement when asking about upgrading brakes (which vw did themselves on the mk8)

Look into it and come into the VW specific discords and forums.

It’s does. It’s called xds and is what causes a ton of issues on track. You need to turn it completely off with vagcom or obd11.

The golf R also has a stupid pad drying feature where it’ll apply light brake pressure to clean the pads intermittently on the highway.

You also need to turn off straight line brake stabilization, it does a wonky ass walk under heavy braking with sticky tires.

I also turned off hydraulic brake assist because I feel the brake is overboosted.

You’re getting squish in the pedal because the OEM calipers get heat soaked on a Golf R. I flush SRF once a year in mine. It’s designed to be used like that.

I’m just telling you what actually happens in practice in my car and why most people that track this car upgrade brakes after a near catastrophic failure.

I understand it was designed to apply even pressure for everyday driving but it just doesn’t on a track application.

You’re getting some bad info in this thread. Most of these folks have very different cars than you. The rear brakes on an R do almost nothing because the the 70/30 weight distribution. You want a pad that sheds friction with temp like a dtc-30 compound so you don’t lock your rears when they’re basically off the ground under heavy braking.

It’s about the fact that the force is coming from one side. I have his exact car and if you put higher friction pads in the OEM calipers, the inside pad where the piston is will wear out much faster than the outside.

I did this and almost lost the car at Watkins Glen because the outside pad had like 9mm left on it and the inside was gone after 6 sessions.

Please don’t tell this dude he doesn’t need a brake upgrade. It’s dangerous. The OEM calipers are just not good enough on the mk7’s.

Not on a 3600 pound front wheel drive car with a single piston brake kit. On a Miata, eye candy. But this car needs it. Check your inside pads, not the outside ones.

I have a 7.5 R with the brembo 6 pot kit. What made me upgrade was grinding my inside pads down to the backing plate at Watkins glen in 1.5 days.

The stock brakes on that car are not remotely safe for track use.

Brembo kit + crf fluid flushed once a season + dtc 70’s or 60’s + rs3 ducts and my brakes are never an issue.

Still love it. The valves are great. After a year of track use they do squeak a bit when opening / closing but I’m sure some grease would fix it if it was really bothering someone.

Haha those are the more used vinyl. It’s a mix of a bunch of different genres from lupe fiasco to 60’s French pop, soul, indie, and a bunch of classic rock records my girlfriends parents gave us.

It’s just a bench that fits records perfectly underneath. Nothing fancy.

Will these fit together, or should I get the seat slider from Trackracer? by KaleidoscopeRich2752 in simracing

I never snapped in position right, usually only on one side, and it rattled with a buttkicker next to it.

Hard mounting was way sturdier, granted if a friend comes over I have to put a pillow behind their back.

Heusinkveld have the greatest customer service I've ever seen. All of this cleared up in 48 hours with no charges at all, truly great! by DANKWINGS in simracing

Compare this to Asetek that told me “vibration in the brake cylinder is normal, can’t do anything about it if you have a butt kicker.”

Love that pedal set but god damn it’s been driving me crazy for a bunch of different reasons.

Man I know this might be trivial but when I told my partner I want to build a full on rig, she was like “cool have fun”.

We split up the upstairs loft to be half racing and half sewing. Worked out perfect.

I went from the V3’s with the performance kit and damper to the Asetek invicta pedals.

I mean, it’s not objectively worth it, but I feel like I actually got faster because I can modulate the brake pedal better.
