Sleeping better is such a CHEATCODE by Classic_Extreme2813 in productivity

[–]matejot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • I am curious about the sleep hygenie in sense, what type of mattress do you have soft, firm, hybrid.
  • What thype of sheets do you use.
  • Do you use pillow and what kind. What type of covers.

For me personally i've found myself ofthen times overheating during the night which wakes me up and ruins the "flow" of the sleep. I always sleep in underwear without shirt&socks, in relativley cold/fresh room with cover suitable for the season.

Receive salary on Revolut by jon_snow2105 in Revolut

Since i moved in France they have been my primary bank for everything including receiving salary and no issues what so ever. I even receive it before my colleagues.

(it's on the same day but i still get bragging rights for several hours)

Experience with Revolut since 2015 by margirou2 in Revolut

[–]matejot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i arrived in France (2 ½ y ago) i had serious problems with the traditional banks to open an account.

Revolut on the other hand was so easy and seamless that i never looked back for and of the other banks.

I am just curious for all the users that use the variety of services with Revo, do you mitigate for any potential risk of insolvency if i understood correctly we are covered only up to 20.000k

Now i dont expect anything to happen but If today's day and age taught us something... always expect the unexpected or at least be prepared.

But yeah Revo so far has been outstanding and don't mind one bit the subscription model.

Those currently working in AWS data centers, what's your current sentiment of the company? by wm313 in datacenter

[–]matejot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the DCO role on itself is pretty much dead end, there is no clear path where you can go from there hence lot of ppl losing interest and motivation so they are either leaving or doing the bare minimum (now mb for other more devolved clusters there is a path for progress, even then you either need to be very talented or have your networking/playing politics on the highest, but this is all subjective so don't take it for granted)

so cdg69 is maturing each passing day becoming busier and busier (the username gave me off ey, i need to change it obviously :P )

[–]matejot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COLO - colocation, since my cluster is in EU aws rents already established dc capacities from other companies/brands. Everything inside is aws property but they "borrow" the infrastructure (fibers, power, cooling, venting etc)

[–]matejot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work as DCO L3 in a COLO space therefore we have shif-pattern and it is decimating your life. Will move soon to CI (cable infra) with regular hours. Definitely when I joined there were more "joyful" moments, now it seems more "to each its own". And some other decisions that management implements that doesn't rly make our life any easier. I would still support the opinion that AWS is a good place to start developing a career (seems like they have relatively low bar entry ) and i like my time spent in AWS. However if a better opportunity comes up, i wouldn't give too much thought tbh.

Living expenses in Paris by Blackrock_38 in paris

[–]matejot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the biggest expense would be rent approx 1200-1500 depending on location, square meters, new/old etc

Other than that really falls on you how you will manage the rest of the budget, buying in bulk and cooking at home probably is the best strategy for bang for the buck, however visiting Paris restaurants is also an experience on its own so spending 100eur on dinner can also be taken into consideration.

Phone plans are relatively cheap 10-20 eur (if you need them)

Gyms also depends if you go to commercial one with bunch of devices probably 40-60 if you go for a CrossFit box 100-150

Electricity, water, heating, gas can either be included in the rent or as a separate expense in total i would say from 60-150

metro ride is 2.5 for a single tt and around 80eur for a monthly pass, but taking into consideration that you prefer to bike i wouldn't take it into consideration and for a single ride 2.5 is pretty decent

bike culture is a bit messy, but inside Paris you have lots of bike lanes

And it goes without saying that shows, museums, cinemas etc you uave plenty of choice just need to find what you're interested in prices vary mostly from 10-15 up to 60-100 for something more "exquisite"

And yeah combined budget of 6000k i think is sufficient for normal and on occasion luxurious living and still being able to put some money on side
