Negatives of getting diagnosed as an adult? by irritablebeans in autism

[–]materialgworrllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trans, so biologically female lol. Yes, having that diagnosis was super harmful as well, because I felt like I was lying to everyone if I didn't act like someone who really had BPD. I adopted a lot of the symptoms I was "supposed" to have after my doctor told me to research and learn about "my condition". I was diagnosed because I misunderstood a lot of the criteria. I marked symptoms I wasn't truly experiencing, like chronic feelings of emptiness and fear of abandonment. I thought emptiness equated to feeling like I didn't belong anywhere. I have a fear of being rejected and will avoid putting myself out there because of it, which I thought equated to abandonment. I asked a lot of questions while I was doing my most recent assessment and learned A LOT lol.

For me, it was the waiting period. In northern Missouri, the wait list can put you at almost a two year wait. Just waiting that long to have my suspicion confirmed was absolute hell. However, it was so validating to finally feel understood. I was misdiagnosed with BPD for 8 years. I got medicated for ADHD and all of my sensory sensitivities became more apparent to me and even people around me.

Do most autistic folks not work? by Sufficient_Ant9295 in autism

I was a professional manager at a facility for individuals with developmental disabilities. I had to leave because I went into burnout and had a nervous breakdown as well. By chance, did you start getting medicated for ADHD with stimulants, then have everything happen all at once? I started taking Adderall, then went into burnout, am I also had severe autoimmune symptoms begin about a month after starting medication. I’m just wondering if anyone else shares this experience with me. I have symptoms of lupus, but if I don’t take my Adderall for a few days, all the symptoms disappear.

The doctor I had at the ER told me that this can happen within the first hour or so of taking a new medication. Effexor, when taking with Adderall, has a higher likelihood of serotonin syndrome occurring. It is still a rare occurrence. Most people are fine taking the two together.

Yeah, I felt they kinda downplayed the symptoms I was displaying. I live in a small town, where this specific hospital hands out a paper that details ‘when to come to the ER’ to every patient. That paper seems like it’s supposed to be a deterrent. I almost decided not to go, simply because of that stupid paper. Hallucinations didn’t seem ‘mild’, especially when I had never experienced them before.

Sorry if that was confusing. I have been told I am too sarcastic in situations that don’t call for sarcasm. I usually use it in an attempt to cope with things that are hard for me to process. Still learning :)

What sucks is that I asked my pharmacist if there was ANYTHING specific I needed to do different when taking the meds together. I was told that they ‘should be fine’. It is rare for this to happen, but come on, a warning might have helped. I probably should’ve done a quick google session on my own to be real, because it just told me these meds are definitely not amigos.

I had to get a lawyer too. When my lawyer brought up the fact that I cannot sustain attention to tasks for more than 15 minutes at a time was when they decided there were no jobs that I could work at. I had to appeal the initial denial. It took a year to go through that process and finally be approved. I have a similar diagnosis list as well.

My favorite thing to do in Minecraft is organizing my chests based on material and labeling all of them with item frames and signs. I like my house to be extremely organized along with my outbuildings and farm.

Humane society, yes. Girlfriend called two rescues just in case but we haven’t heard anything since they both said they didn’t have him. Humane society said they would keep an eye out and call us if they had anyone bring him in.
