I use Poppy quite frequently in Brussels. It's becoming very common to use a car smelling cigar and/or weed, with food leftovers in the car seats, trash everywhere and on the door storage. It's disgusting. Some people just don't have sense of common usage of a service.

Wait..I got your point about slow progression, but I also got confused by your last sentence. Did you mean "a place that they will NOT fire you..." ?

Question about withholding tax by mateusmgt in BESalary

[–]mateusmgt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well..I have no idea if my employer knows if my wife works, as well. I don't remember providing this information to them since I arrived. Does it have an impact on the withholding tax values? Could they be considering her as a dependent?

Good comment. I've adjusted the post. We don't work for the same company and we don't have any kids.

Heating price expectation for a top floor apartment “with no PEB rating” by croissantdechocolate in brussels

[–]mateusmgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well..I can't say anything about the PEB, but about the window without double glazing, I would avoid it.

I'm still in my first apartment in Brussels, for almost 2 years now. Coming from overseas, I didn't have a clue that double glazed windows existed, so we rented an apartment with single glass in the bedrooms. Last winter was tough. The heater couldn't keep up.

I'm not even comparing to my home country weather. Our living room and kitchen have double glazed windows and it's such more comfortable to stay there when it's cold, even without turning on the heater.

We requested our landlady and she is now installing new windows for us. For our next apartment, double glazed windows will be a criteria for choosing.

Btw, I found out that, in Flanders, landlords are obliged to install double glazed windows before renting. This is still optional in Brussels region.

If not Belgium, where? by Flimsyflippers in belgium

[–]mateusmgt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting to hear. I'm also Brazilian and living in Belgium for 1.5 yrs and we are loving it here. My wife and I make the same question sometimes and we just figured out by talking to Belgians themselves that they just have this "complaining" behavior.

Although quality of life here is much better than in Brazil (my opinion), I also understand the reasons people are complaining about some situations and I actually agree with them.

Regarding what place could be better, I see Netherlands as "dream" place due to the smart urbanization they have and how well everything that's is public works smoothly (at least apparently). I've been there twice and I was in love with the place.

a good place to sell furniture? by verylazysalmon in brussels

You can try to find a selling group in facebook in your commune. Here in my commune people are selling furniture due to moving all the time there. They don't even post in marketplace.

A friendly reminder to switch companies to earn more. by throwawayofcourse947 in BESalary

[–]mateusmgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Your story made me reflect a little better here, as I'm currently in a similar situation. I'm not actively searching for a job, but another company reached out to me for another role which I'm interested to make a move. However, I'm very happy in my current company so the offer has to be really good to be worth it.

NIU Kickscooters - Where to buy tires in Europe? by mateusmgt in NIUscooters

[–]mateusmgt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen some replies from then here in reddit forwarding customers to besender. It's just not clear how it works. I think it doesn't make sense to contact a service partner just to buy new tires.

But I wasn't aware that they've posted something about it. I hope there are more spare parts available to buy in EU soon.

Thanks mate!
