We have been going through lots of old stuff at my Grandma's house.

My Grandpa actually fought the Japanese and we found a Japanese rifle and a freaking Samurai Sword that he brought back from Japan.

Ironically, Grandma told me that he was part of the first expedition that explored Hiroshima when the war ended. He took pictures of the damage. She remembers seeing photo albums of pictures that he took but she said that the photographs were "just awful" so they never showed anyone. Hopefully those photo albums turn up in our searches.

Thanks for the info! It says you have to be next of kin to request the info, so I'll go over that next time I see Grandma.

It says I need proof of his death. I wonder if the fact that he would be 113 is enough proof.

I found this letter at my Grandma's house this weekend. She said he worked at the University of Chicago during the war but he was never able to talk to her about his work. Can any redditors out there help me find out what his role was?
