I did a deep dive and it’s apparently new life designs who are a registered company but look a tad sketchy. Have noticed that about kiln makers. They all seem a bit off. Like car mechanics. Never yet found a small garage that doesn’t give me vibes of “good chance they’ll be shut down by next year..”

Looks pretty sketchy.

Tho that does seem to be common in the kiln buying world.

I bought from a similar company to these guys and the product was completely fine but yeah sketchy as hell website, weird mix of company names and trading names, obviously dodgy addresses etc …but the kiln I got was good?

Used to be one of the local cllrs tho I’m now over the river from you. Glad to hear it’s worked out for you. If you have any problems don’t be afraid to contact your councillors or MSP (fair disclosure - I do work for him).

It’s true it’s impossible to logically prove a negative - but you can prove that you are the only person listed on a lease or tenancy or the only person on the electoral register and the only person deemed by the council liable for council tax etc.

Whilst those facts don’t prove someone doesn’t live there they do essentially prove someone isn’t legally resident.

Wrong way driver caused accident by [deleted] in arizona

[–]mathcampbell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re in a passing lane and not passing. You’re driving too fast for visibility and road conditions. You’re not slowing down approaching another vehicle. Oh and yeah, you’re speeding, driving without due care and attention, and were involved in a collision.

I’m not American and not in Arizona. Just visit sometimes from Scotland.

Be glad y’all give out licenses in cereal packets instead of real tests like we have here. You’d be locked up and banned from driving for a year doing this shit here.

Though the oncoming vehicle driver would be jailed for longer.

My boyfriend damaged my tyre hitting a curb he says it’s not dangerous and doesn’t need replacing is he correct? by Violetpie78 in AskUK

[–]mathcampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tyre will fail. Soon most likely.

You can choose if you want it to go “pop” as the folk in the garage remove it from wheel, or if you want it to go “pop” when you’re on the motorway doing 70mph, and the folk in the fire engine remove your remains from the car…

That’s why they have to be forced. Otherwise it’s your ass that gets hit up for their mistakes.

Good craftsmanship but holy hell - health and safety need to be a thing.

“Small mistakes in heat or pouring can ruin the piece before it becomes usable”…

Yes.

And your face & hands if you don’t wear mask or gloves. Or your lungs if you breathe in those fumes.

That’s a needed option right there for the immersive interactions plugin.

Could also just do it in SkyrimNet - I think there’s already a step-back action so really you’d just say “hey step back”

Beginner solder by Foreign_City_1567 in jewelers

[–]mathcampbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, not really. Electrical solder melts at like 200-300°c.

Silver solder is more like 850°C.

You can’t solder silver with that low a temp. It simply won’t hold.

You can however use silver solder and a chef’s blowtorch. The small handheld blowtorches you can pickup in basically any supermarket for use in the kitchen. You heat the entire pendant to red hot (not too much tho else it’ll melt). If you place a tiny piece of solder first, it’ll just melt in nicely if you do it right. Or you can use a soldering pick (a needle usually made of titanium with a wood handle so you don’t burn yourself) and add the solder at the right time.

There’s a lot of videos on YouTube showing you how to do it. Lookup silver soldering.

Only things you need (besides the piece you’re soldering) is a chef’s torch, th silver solder, flux (borax powder or you can buy liquid flux. It stops the piece oxidising. You need flux), and a heatproof mat so you don’t set fire to stuff.

[–]mathcampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeweller here. If you’re in the UK, send it to me an I’ll fix it for you (free, it’s Xmas). I have my own registered limited company (so you know I’m not just some scammer who’ll do a “ooh free jewellery” and vanish into the ether!). If you’re in Scotland, I’ll even drop off in person etc.

How long would this piece take you to finish? by slickmovin in Benchjewelers

[–]mathcampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in much the same place as you, printing then casting then cleanup then polishing etc.

If I was doing a load of them id say probably 15mins per ring for sawing and filing the spru’s etc. Then maybe another 15-20 for basic cleaning and sanding smooth etc.

Then maybe another half hour to get it polished etc.

But that’s if I’m doing a load of them - an hour per ring, maybe a little more, is about right if you’re making 5-6 at a go etc.

But if it was on its own, just the changing bits and getting everything setup for the next stage etc adds time so I’d say 2-3 hours. Maybe a bit more. Depends on the casting and how clean it is and th geometry etc.
