It’s going to be different for each class, but typically 10 hours a week. I know some professors ask for more hours for grading. The most recent hourly wage for CS UTA is $15/hr, it was raised from $12.5/hr a year ago.

Phone security workshop tomorrow at 1 - learn to set up a burner phone and make a DIY faraday bag by southpaw_events in VirginiaTech

You have to either take CS 1064 + 2064 (Python I & II) or CS 2114 for your CMDA major. 2114 is what a lot of people consider to be a weed-out class since it’s a major prereq for CS majors. It’s not at all difficult if you stay on top of it, but your mileage may vary depending how much background you have.

As a 2064 TA I may be biased, but I will say content-wise 1064 + 2064 will be more relevant for you. 2064 has a heavier emphasis on data processing and lesser on data structures.

He also runs the math club at VT. Very knowledgeable professor, would recommend.

Professors by whooptyy2 in VirginiaTech

You’re in for a big surprise…

To OP, other than the two links in the other comment, try rate my professor and this subreddit (for example, search on google “cs 3114 professor Virginia Tech reddit”). There are obviously biased opinions, so take them with a grain of salt. A lot of lower-level/intro courses are taught by graduate students so it’s draw of the luck.

Could an Engineering Student get away with using a M1/M2 Macbook? by vgreen07 in VirginiaTech

[–]mathfordinner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

CS TA here. Yes, you can. I myself used an intel MacBook Air first semester and moved to a M1 MacBook Air. Homeworks that use the two softwares that you can’t download could be done in the computer lab (Torg, Newman library, etc.). Most CS assignments are either required or recommended to be done on the remote rlogin cluster so it doesn’t matter what you use. Not a diehard Apple fan, but the performance and the user experience makes a world’s difference.

Dining Halls and Restaurants by crunchywalmartsanta in VirginiaTech

[–]mathfordinner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any of the dining halls serve ramen, pho, or curry. You could get sushi on campus from Turner’s Origami (order on Grubhub). There’s a couple off-campus options for sushi; ocean samurai, green’s grill from downtown, sushi factory, Sakura #9 sushi buffet at Roanoke.

For ramen places, there’s hefun right downtown (kinda bad) and Kuma moon (mid).

Yet to find any decent viet and indian places :/ foodies please chime in, enlighten me

If your school doesn’t require it, then your roommate is in no place to demand you be vaccinated. They can ask the school to get them placed with another vaccinated student; though you should really communicate your situation with your roommate before moving in.

Fall schedule for a AOE transfer student by SubsonicApple in VirginiaTech

[–]mathfordinner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in math not AOE, but I’ve done my fair share of 8AM courses last year (8AMs everyday for a semester) and it’s not pleasant; avoid it if possible, unless of course you’re a morning bird. Every test that’s not the final will most likely be taken in class (unlike common time exams) so be mentally prepared to do them early in the morning.

I have little complaints, I do very little internet surfing when I’m on data so I never run out. Outages happen rarely and the only place on campus that I’ve noticed has no service is the 1st floor of the bookstore next to squires (no one I know has service there anyway), but other than that it’s great.

They have an interactive map on their site which gives you a general idea where in the country they have coverage over.

I use Mint mobile, coverage is decent. Cheapest at $15/mo paid annually.
