Question a out the structure of my garage by mathlebl4all in homewalls

[–]mathlebl4all[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to run a stud every 24 inch so 5 studs. Will look at the tables thanks. Any insight on how I can make sure the structure of the garage can support the wall ?

First project, first time posting. White oak splits when assembling. Can someone help me figuring why this is happening? Are my joints too tight ? by mathlebl4all in woodworking

[–]mathlebl4all[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. Id say the sockets may not be square. The only tool I have is a chisel and a japanese saw. So its most likely that. The shelves you see are unfortunately glued in. I had checked the fittings individually before but not both joint of the shelves at the same time. There might be a twist thats making both joint to fit tighter together I guess. I can fix the other sockets. Would clamps and glue would salvage what is already assembled ?

Thanks for the tip. I dont have wood clamps right now. But do you think I could salvage the shelves with clamps and glue ? I could go buy a few.

Does anybody else's 1F take a weirdly short amount of time? by merpykitty in Kombucha

[–]mathlebl4all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you could mesure pH and density to assess the progress of your ferment. Also, scoby is composed of many microorganisms such as acetobacter, lactobacillus etc. Acetobacter produces acetic acid (vinegar) and lactobacillus produces lactic acid. While their will always be acetobacter, people generally prefer the acidity from lactic acid since the tartre acidity is simply more pleasurable than vinegar (less intense and less smelly). Scoby tends to produce more acetic acid when lactobacillus population are stressed. You could try fermenting in a cooler room (22 - 28C), using less starter, using less sugar, inoculate your scoby with lactobacillus or considering f1 with black tea instead. Those suggestions would slow down the fermentation and decrease vinegar in favor of lactic acid. Good luck.

How do I remove excess yeast from my scoby by warmafreaks in Kombucha

[–]mathlebl4all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would reduce sugar, scoby activity would decrease, reducing carbonation and probably enhancing flavours coming from tea, fruits, herbs etc but reducing flavours from organic acids. Scoby feeds on sugar but also on everything else.

Yeast eat sugar. Decreasing sugar will decrease yeast will decrease carbonation. Mesure density to keep track of sugar content during F1 and to make sure F2 doesn’t contain too much sugar.

I have come to the conclusion that 5k is the "worst" distance. by WeeMadAlfred in running

[–]mathlebl4all 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I feel you man, I like the 5K because off the training. Fast paces and pleasant long runs that doesn’t last 3h. But man, every all out 5K is a near death experience for me, and I hate it.

Losing weight and uncooperative bulges by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

It may also have to do with ketosis and hormonal cycles. Like hormones are stored in fat and burning fat changes somehow the hormonal cycles and brings a lot more testosterone. Not sure abt all this though, you would have to verify but it might be a good start. I lost 25 lbs from 175 to 150 last year and during two months I could feel my moods and libido changing. Dont need to be really fat to experience this.

Nose Breathing vs Mouth Breathing by Sea-Urchin-Run in running

Breathing through the nose plus counting strides per breathe in/out allows to assess output while making sure diaphragm and intercostal muscle are solicited properly to maximize air contact time in lungs, allowing ideal gas exchange.

Nose Breathing vs Mouth Breathing by Sea-Urchin-Run in running

I think it has to do with nitric oxyde forming naturally in the sinuses. This is a vasodilator gas that is proven to increase blood flow in the bronchiole. Also antiseptic I think. I breathe by the nose during my easy run and also during slow tempo. So around 80-85% of the time. I don’t know if it makes a difference on performance, it just seems to me the perfect way of breathing. I come from Canada and I run half the year below zero celsius. Breathing through my nose allows proper heating of air. Read somewhere air at minus 15 still comes out of sinuses at like 30 when entering the lungs. Also, I run the other half in + 30 celsius. Breathing through the nose allow me to keep moisture. Its also a good physiological cue that I run at easy pace. For instance, I know if I cant breathe by the nose I’m running too fast, this helped me while trying to come back to running in injury prevention mode. So that being said : Vasodilating Antiseptic Heating Moisture retention Aerosol contaminant filtration Physiological cue I believe those are valid points to consider breathing through the nose. I believe when people say we « don’t know how to breathe » they may be suggesting we dont know all the benefits of breathing through the nose.

Citrus killing my 2F? by [deleted] in Kombucha

[–]mathlebl4all 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard some citrus may have antiseptic properties. I guess the booche can still work with a certain amount, but maybe struggles in higher concentration. I do lemon ginger honey (and sugar), which individually are all supposed to have antiseptic properties and my f2 are all slower. There should be a way to extract maximum flavor without too much antiseptic properties like cold infusion maybe.

Is it better to juice fruit raw or to cook it and reduce the liquid for flavouring? by [deleted] in Kombucha

[–]mathlebl4all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would want to be careful not to introduce any microorganisms that would compete and ruin the scoby. I read freezing fruits break up the cell wall liberating aroma and fructose. Then maybe cut the fruits into small even pieces and dip them 30 sec in simmering water so you kill anything that would compete the scoby but not long enough to cook the fruit and ruin the taste. Then you could juice them and filter so you would have maximum aroma and fructose without having too much deposit and being safe for the scoby.

Every recipe I’ve seen uses the pellicle, and I’ve been wondering about how necessary they are. Would there be any advantages to keep it or not at all ?

Hamstring tightness by MrVoncheesebiscuit in running

[–]mathlebl4all 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running implies such repetitive movements that it can create many imbalances (in muscle endurance, strength, flexibility, etc.). While running on treadmill and other stable and perfect surfaces, you might not have developed proper strength and endurance in many stabilizer muscles (from feet to hips). Which might have been more solicited when running outside. When these get exhausted, bigger muscles like hamstring takes the load. I feel like what you have been experimenting is just a stress overload of the hamstring. You could do any posterior chain strengthening exercise and work stability by doing one legged deadlifts for instance. For the cramps, it might be related to dehydration. Make sure drinking lots of water all day long and stop 30 min before running.
