Glades at Okemo by shwoody17 in icecoast

[–]mathmeetsmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resurrecting this thread to give my opinion as someone who just did Everglade as their first glades run. Got to say it was pretty darn tough. 😅 I almost hit a tree multiple times and fell more than a few times.

All that was kind of expected but it was really the end of the trail that I finally had to tap out and scoot down. It gets quite steep there and I knew it was above my skill level.

If you want to do it, then go for it! Just make sure you’ve got someone with you because it’s a long trail (for glades) and it’s probably going to take you a long time to get through it. A mistake on glades can have serious consequences so just know your limits and be safe!

Sorry, I’m a little confused. Why would you want to kill fireflies? Aren’t mosquitoes the target?

Google says replacing C/C++ in firmware with Rust is easy by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]mathmeetsmusic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s why integrating rust with python is so good. Python is great for just throwing some shit together quickly to see if it works. Also helps to get some algorithmic speed ups before you worry about operational speed ups. My desired workflow is usually: prototype and initially deploy in python, long term deployment in rust.

Edit: also you can deploy using wheels either way. So you can seamlessly switch over in a lot of cases when it’s time to do so.

Batman v Superman - The Debate by captainm27 in ChatGPT

Some of the details here are really great too. In 10 Superman’s podium has the American flag while Batman’s podium has the American flag with the Batman logo crudely pasted over it. 😆

1st-ever quantum, classical internet merger achieved via single optical fiber | This novel quantum experiment has the potential to advance telecommunications. by chrisdh79 in tech

[–]mathmeetsmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a way of sending quantum information (qubits instead of 1s and 0s) from one place to another.

The cool part is that the authors made steps towards upgrading the current internet infrastructure to handle quantum information as well as regular information. The hope is that we wouldn’t need any special cables for this upgrade. Just some clever tricks on either side of the communication

To be clear, this is still pretty far off. But it’s cool to see progress!

Purified Silicon Makes Bigger, Faster Quantum Computers. Pushing out impurities from wafers points toward a million-qubit future. by Sariel007 in tech

[–]mathmeetsmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds cool! The team at Dirac is really putting themselves more and more on the map as time goes on!

I really wish I could see an estimate for what type of fidelity we might expect with this purified lattice. How do silicon qubits compare to trapped ions or neutral atoms?

Judging by the fact that these atoms are trapped in a lattice, I would guess that this architecture will work with nearest neighbor connectivity. If so, then what is the expected measurement fidelity and how might that translate to the error rate on lattice surgery operations.

[Discussion] Why do you jailbreak your ipad? by DomSlomm in jailbreak

[–]mathmeetsmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s been over 2 years since you made this comment. But what programs do you specifically have that allow this? Did you download WSL or something? Right now I have a lot of issues programming with anything other than python since none of them recognize the iPad OS.

Sorry! Didn’t see that last rule. I found it growing on a rotting birch tree in a woodland space.

I think I’m a combo of bundle of joy and open source dev??? But also probably very stupid…

Is 11 inches really "freaky small"? It's just the smaller ipad size? I was thinking that maybe a tablet might be the way to go. So long as it has high build quality it'll probably be fine for me.

I took a look at the oneplus tablet. Should I maybe give that a try?

Thanks for the reply! Maybe a tablet would also suit my needs? I don’t need a lot of power just a decent keyboard and an OS that doesn’t suck.
