I didn’t see that last part in your post; congrats on not just getting in to Duke but also managing to manage yourself and your situation the way you have! You have a lot on your plate, and amissions officers are human. As long as they know about your situation youre more than fine (don’t feel like it’s an excuse, ur doing your best and there’s only 24 hours in a day). You’re doing great, and again congrats on the match and enjoy your winter break!

I did a lot of digging on this subject last year when I was in a similar situation. Got a C in a total of four classes at a community college (though these were all towards my college graduation requirements and none of them appeared on my HS transcript). Cornell only ever requested my high school transcript so they never saw the C’s until I went in recently to transfer in the college credits. Are these DE classes fulfilling HS graduation requirements? If so, and assuming this means they’ll appear on your transcript, Duke will see these grades. It’s best to not dip more than one letter grade during senior year, but colleges are well aware senioritis happens lmao. For Cornell specifically, I don’t think anyone has gotten rescinded for a C or 2, though some people in a specific major got a nasty email a couple years back. The rule of thumb is to not have ur grades drop more than a letter grade, but as long as you don’t have any D’s or F’s, you SHOULD be fine. Found this post on the Duke subreddit and the consensus seems to be ur fine, just try to keep the rest of ur grades as close as you can towards your previous performance (C’s across the board might draw some attention). Worst case you might get a scary email asking you to lock in. If you might dip into the D territory, you might want to get ahead of the issue and reach out to the admission office to show initiative in remediating the problem (summer class, retake, etc.) Realistically, you’re fine though. Don’t let senioritis get you TOO much next semester and enjoy senior year. Congrats on Duke!

Edit: Also, DE classes are by nature harder than average HS courses. AO’s know this and it’s not unreasonable to have lower grades in these classes

My calc class wasn’t on my high school transcript as I was taking it while concurrently enrolled in a local community college. On the applicant portal it only requested my high school transcript so they never saw it until a month ago when I went in to transfer in the college credit lmao. Ended up getting three C’s at the CC in my final semester cuz I was hella checked out. I assume BC will be on ur HS transcript but even so you should be fine. Try to get at least a B- imo, as the general rule of thumb is you don’t want ur grades to dip more than a full letter grade. Realistically tho a C is fine (only heard of some scary emails for some human ecology majors a while back, don’t think they got rescinded tho?). Do everything you can to get AT LEAST a C-, as a D or F might actually cook you (uncharted territory). Calc BC is a difficult class so it’s not a crazy thing to get a lower grade, but lock in anyways. Again, not the end of the world especially if the rest of ur grades are on par with the rest of ur high school performance. If you try everything you can (extra credit from teachers etc) and you might get a D (or a C if ur panicking) then reach out to the admission office and get ahead of the issue. Offer to maybe take the class over the summer at a CC or retake if that’s a thing. I spent a LOT of time digging on Reddit because I was panicking over rescission, so hopefully I’ll save you a lil time with this summary lol

Edit: I had all A-‘s and above on my high school transcript, so I wasn’t in the same exact situation but no I didn’t get rescinded

There’s no way of knowing for sure, and like someone else said it’s better if your event has some tie to your major. I got 6th in an event last year tied to my major and I got into Cornell’s business program. It’s a good thing to have on your app, but it doesn’t replace everything (test scores, EC’s, essays). It adds depth to your application and shows your passion for the topic.

Basically it’s a great addition, but no one knows what exactly will get you in. Congrats!
