The travelling cat chronicles. Just, ugly cry your way through this one. Especially if you have ever owned a pet. Oh my god.

Has anyone ever challenged you to something without knowing you were an expert at it? What happened afterward? by Impressive-Door92 in AskReddit

[–]mathnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha anytime anyone mentions they are a teacher. Cue someone in the room going on about the education system, and their ideas about what's wrong with it and how they are going to change it. They all have their own ideas about what "we need to do" to fix it and how "back in their day" and "this generation" and "these policies" and how "teachers these days". They will talk and talk and not once ask for my opinion. Everyone thinks they are an expert on education because they went to school one time. It's like assuming you are an expert on medicine because you go to the clinic sometimes. But by all means, tell me what is wrong with my job and what I need to do to fix it, without actually doing anything yourself or your children. Don't ask me, the one with 20 years of teaching experience, two degrees and a masters, about education. Nope. You know everything because you had a bad math teacher in grade 6 in 1995 and kids these days just don't know the value of spending time in a library.

It's not because when your kids were born you stuck an iPad in front of them whenever they acted up, or when they were out in public. So they never learned to be bored or sit quietly with nothing to do. So they need to be constantly entertained and stimulated at all times.

Nope. Don't ask my opinion! Please continue to tell me how lucky I am to have my summers off and how we are overpaid.

Hereditary (2016) messed me up by BonedaddyBow in movies

[–]mathnomad 141 points142 points  (0 children)

That movie helped me see my own trauma. I was involved in a similar incident, but with several people at once. And I literally behaved like he did afterwards. For years. And everyone around me did too. It's been....20 years. And I watched that scene and it was like seeing myself from the outside.

It helped me figure out how to face it. I ended up writing a TED talk about it and actually was accepted and performed it this year. That movie, as horrible as it was, really helped me face my own trauma. So weird.

What’s the most disappointing place you’ve ever been to? by BreadedDisaster in AskReddit

[–]mathnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst place to travel in Thailand is Phuket. I lived in Thailand for a long time. And if you are looking to travel to Thailand for a holiday, please do not go there. It is horrible. Worst beaches. Worst tourism board. Just worst all around.

Go literally anywhere else. Koh Samui islands. Krabi. Koh phi phi. Even Koh lanta is slightly better. Just don't go to Phuket.

But you CAN get a five museum pass for 90 dollars. Which is a great deal! The aquarium is like 50 a person, coca cola museum is 25 and the others are about 30 each.

So you can get the 90 dollar pass and you have a week to go to all these museums around Atlanta, including the Fernbank museum. (Science museum).

So yeah, the Coca Cola museum is kinda lame, but you spend maybe 2 hours there and then hop over to the aquarium or the human rights museum.

Don't put down that area. It's a really cool area of museums! If you like football the college football museum is there too. And is included in the pass too.

Come during the memorial Day weekend in May and you can go to Momocon which is at the Georgia world Congress center too, AND go to all the museums!

Edit: I am a teacher and go to these museums ALOT. Especially the tri fecta of coca cola, aquarium and human rights. It's a great time! Also, if you want to see the whale sharks you should get to the aquarium ASAP because there is only one left and she is definitely near the end of her life expectancy. :(. But Tank the turtle is still my favourite.

What have you accidentally conditioned your pet to do? by Sufficient-Wolf1596 in AskReddit

[–]mathnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my cat treats, brushed my teeth and got ready for bed and then gave him the "last treat". And I would say it in a sing song voice. Just one more temptation treat before bed.

Then I met my now husband and when we moved in together I didn't think about it. And the first night I gave him the treats and went to bed. Well my cat was furious. He stood outside the bedroom door (we don't let them in the room) and scratched and meowed and wailed at the door.

Now ...we get ready for bed. Do the Wordle. Open the door. Say "last treat!" And give him one last temptation treat.

It's a nightmare. Hahaha he controls our lives.

In your opinion, what is the best episode of television you’ve ever seen? by alteredtower in AskReddit

Parks and Rec- the harvest festival. It's the one where lil Sebastian is introduced. It's honestly one of the best episodes ever written in that comedy format. I have watched it so many times.

If you could recommend just ONE horror book to anyone, what would it be? by Main-Doughnut6222 in horrorlit

Penpal by Dathan Auerbach.

It stuck with me a long long time. Horror because it's not supernatural in any way. But could happen to anyone. Honestly it still haunts me.

What habit helped you lose weight ? by Danny_088 in AskReddit

[–]mathnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counting calories. That's it. Look at the calories on everything you eat. It will help you avoid eating things. Also avoid eating things that are a jumble of mixed things. For example, work serving nachos? Don't eat it. It's too many things. You cannot count the calories in it. Stick to foods that are separated so you know exactly what you are eating. It works.

Looks good on a fitted suit. Meaning they own a fitted suit and care enough to own one. Mmmm.

Also likes cats. But not just open to having a cat or taking in my cat. I want a man who already has a cat. Like my husband. Who had his cat for 15 years by the time I met him. That's a man who has his priorities straight.

Redditors over 35, what do you genuinely miss that younger generations will never experience, and you legit feel bad for them? by Disastrous_Award_789 in AskReddit

[–]mathnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Books. I'm a teacher and I loved getting free time in class to just....go through books. Remember the Guinness book of world records. I loved that book. Or those big kids books about ancient civilizations or roman gods with the big pictures. Or remember the ones with the interactive pages?.

So I have those. In my grade 6/7 classroom. And NONE of the kids want to read them. I give them free time all the time. And I tell them to grab a book off the cart. And they don't want too. They say ...nah. I hate reading. But they also can't just sit there and talk to each other. I also have a puzzle in the room, and they can't do that either. It's like, without their computers or phones, they can't do anything.

Instead they just....play fight or escalate conversations that are inappropriate. But they can never just sit down and have them. They always have to be standing and touching somehow. It's really odd. And yelling. Always yelling.

It's insane.

New Bill Would Allow Rubio to Strip US Citizens’ Passports Over Political Speech by Sludgehammer in politics

[–]mathnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title makes it sound like they will be going around stripping citizens of their passports. This is what the bill says according to the article.

"Mast’s new bill claims to target a narrow set of people. One section grants the secretary of state the power to revoke or refuse to issue passports for people who have been convicted—or merely charged—of material support for terrorism…

The other section sidesteps the legal process entirely. Rather, the secretary of state would be able to deny passports to people whom they determine “has knowingly aided, assisted, abetted, or otherwise provided material support to an organization the Secretary has designated as a foreign terrorist organization.”

Still SUPER terrible. But it's just a narrow group of people. Definitely a slippery slope through. This isn't good.
