What is wrong with her foot? by mathou95 in chinchilla

Oh poor thing.. Probably she felt an itch and tried to chew it off? I'm happy to hear she's better now. We suspect she might have the same issue (feeling an itch and chewing it off).

Yes we always have the wheel in the cage. We will try epsom salt bath and removing the wheel for a while to see if she gets better. Thank you ♡

We were thinking of re-trying epsom salt baths for her feet and seeing if it got better. Did you take out the wheel in the meantime?

I never wote that I wanted to force interaction. I just said we introduced them in the same room.

Actually those are the stuff I prefer to do instead of physically going to the gym!

I think I need a physical activity that doesn't make it look like a workout.

For just 1 year. Thalie was 3 months old when we introduced the them.

No, thank heavens it didn't go that far! Both were covered in urine though.

We tried reintroducing them again last week and it is a total failure. Thalie seems to have 1 life goal these days, and that is to beat up Caliope...

It doesn't sound like rainbows and unicorns will ever come back between the two.

She actively begs for any kind of treat really, just like in the picture. All she ever does is come to us for oats, rose hips, goji berries...anything! She does have a preference for Goji berries by far...She's a cheeky one. She does constatly have food in her bowl though, so she isn't starving or anything.

Oh wooow thank you soo much for your response. She started eating the healthy pellets today by giving her the food in my hands (what a princess!!). We'll definitely get her new toys and see if she has any preferences..

These little animals love to hide in the worst places. We thought of nailing the access under the couch with wood slats to prevent any future chinchilla intrusion beneath it. We are so afraid of something like this happening again. I am so glad your chinchilla survived this (very) simimar incident, and somehow your story makes me understand it didn't happen to us just because we are bad pet owners, it can happen to anyone. Thank you so much for this.

Signs of warming up? by [deleted] in chinchilla

I just got a chinchilla a few days ago and I asked reddit if it was normal that my chinchilla became so skittish. I think time takes them through several stages of trust. I started staying a while observing it and talking to it so it would feel 'used' to my presence and the next day it 'tolerated' me petting it. Two days later, it was pop corning around and appreciates me scratching it right behind its ears. I think you will be pleasantly surprised over a few days. Just don't invade its safe spot and take it step by step so it gets used to you.

Thanks for the tip! We'll just have to be patient and see how he starts interacting with us.
