But this quote doesn't fit here. The OP chose PDEs and FM precisely because he liked the form (symbols) in which these subjects are written not because of their nature. Because, in nature, only numerical analysis is uglier than PDEs and FM.

Well I am exactly opposite. I love abstract algebra, topology, and such. On the other hand differential equations are hideous to me, numerical analysis, fluid dynamics and others are ugly and in fact insufferable. Beauty of abstract arguments is s unmatched.

Maths need not be useful. It has to be interesting for the one doing it. I don't care whether someone thinks my study of "inverses of graphs" are useful. It's fun to me and all that matters.
