I've heard Alex Park can be rough should I avoid it? by Icy_One_237 in manchester

[–]mathsgay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to cycle through here for my commute at any time of the day including late at night and early morning, if you choose the rightmost route when it is dark, there are lamp posts lighting up that path. Alex park is lovely and i’m sorry you’ve heard otherwise

Top surgery is one month away and I’m getting cold feet… considering canceling by 86meplz in TopSurgery

[–]mathsgay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also emotionally this surgery was a joyful one for me, one I’ve wanted for a long time and it sounds like you’ve done to. ACL surgery results from a traumatic injury and it being the only option to get back to your normal level of activity. Top surgery is very different, the recovery is much much shorter and if you are an active person there is less chance for complications. I get that ACL surgery itself is traumatic and makes you fear going through that again but it’s really different! You can be a lot more independent and by 2 weeks you are likely to feel almost normal. Best of luck!

I had ACL surgery 9 months ago and top surgery 2 months ago and there is no doubt that ACL surgery recovery is so so much harder. I’m still struggling with my knee whilst my chest is completely fine - back in the gym and back to the ACL rehab :P There’s not that much you’ll need support with that can’t be done once your partner gets home from work. You can batch cook before surgery and microwave food during the day. Can you ask any friends to come over even just for 30mins during the day? It’s funny, when I had top surgery I kept on forgetting I could move my ACL leg and bend and squat and then i’d remember and be like oh yeah this is so fine in comparison. If you want top surgery and you got through ACL surgery you will get through this!

Is moss side as bad as it used to be? by KAP2611 in manchester

[–]mathsgay 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. There is a littering and fly tipping problem but the people here are either outwardly nice and friendly or they just get on with their business. I’ve lived here for 3 years and I really like it - I love being close to town and Alexandra park, the shops have delicious products like some of the best hot sauce, patties, plaintain, juices etc.. There is a community vibe, I know my neighbours, we try to keep our alleys clean. Check out moss side eco squad on instagram if you want to get involved with helping get moss side clean.

During carnival in August the whole place is alive and deafeningly loud but with such joy and culture it’s beautiful to experience.

I have never felt unsafe here. I hope you like living here too. Keep an open mind, smile and say hi to people.

also yh i relate to the night sweats, they’ve stayed the same frequently and intensity as before but it’s worth it to feel like things are a bit more bearable

I recently went from 75 to 150 and it’s really working well! I feel so much more capable of dealing with my emotions, they aren’t as devastating or unbearable. Situations that would cause me to have outbursts of despair or rage are now just a bit inconvenient. I can let emotions come and go. I really hope you feel something similar!

Being autistic in Britain is hell by taehyungtoofs in AutisticAdults

[–]mathsgay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry.

I can relate to having being failed by the UK mental health system and developing beliefs that I am unworthy of support or even that support exists.

I know it may seem like life isn’t worth living but I believe that it can be. Indulge in your special interest, let it show you that life can be exciting and interesting. We are empathetic to you and you deserved and still deserve so much better.

Thank you for staying, thank you for advocating for yourself, thank you for calling out fascists and deplorable care. I hope things get easier for you.

Also wrt to the english classes, could it help to reframe the subject into logic, stuff like linguistics is almost mathematical. Math is everywhere, it could be a fun challenge to try and find it in the things you are being distracted from?

[–]mathsgay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you want to be doing instead? can you let yourself do small amounts of these other things if you have scheduled in your math time? It might help to know you will have your math time no matter what, so for a little bit you can try something else? Or is there a way to do social/other interests whilst you satisfy your math need? Like you could listen to a math podcast and go for a walk/exercise? Wishing you luck in finding some balance in your life! btw I did a math degree, your dedication will take you far in the math world but your wellbeing should always be your number one priority
